Surprised by how clean it was despite being an old hotel in the area. I am overall satisfied with the hotel and my room, especially the cleanliness of the toilet and tub area. If I have to be really fussy and pin point a thing I did not like, it would be that the blanket is slightly thinner than I would normally prefer a hotel blanket to me. However, this is just my very fussy side speaking. Overall, I would give this hotel a 4.9 out of 5.
I had booked a room with breakfast during my two days there for a workshop. Both days are somewhat the same, food was decent. The workshop provided lunch which led me to again dining in the lunch buffet section, overall it was pleasant. I like it that the hotel provided a variety of Penang food over the two days. My fav was the rojak which I took a photo here haha! Hub enjoyed the pool and hot & cold pool (sadly the sauna was under maintenance).
Before I checked out, I also happened to be part of the Penang heritage launch ceremony. So, I got to see some of the really beautiful art work and nyonya clothing items on sale at the pop up stalls at the lobby too. The hotel also was serving nutmeg juice and Penang famous snack 豆沙饼.
I must mention too, that I got a sea view room which allowed me to see the extension project by MBPP. There was a very happening and lovely park opposite the hotel just minutes walk away. I couldn’t help to bring myself over and was really happy to experience the joy of the families enjoying the facilities there. Huge slide, lots of climbing equipment and a very decent skatepark! Running track was very nice too! You must check it out if you’re in Penang!
It was overall a pleasant stay in all.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and both the lobby and rooms were clean and well-maintained. While the room amenities were generally decent, the TV felt outdated with its small screen.
The hotel offers a good range of facilities including swimming pools, hot and cold saunas, a gym, and tennis courts — all of which added to the overall experience.
However, the biggest downside was the Wi-Fi. The speed was slow and the connection inconsistent, even after we switched from room 1027 to 1020 for a supposedly better signal. This was quite frustrating, especially for work or streaming purposes.
I would consider staying here again if the Wi-Fi connectivity is improved in the future.

The check in process is very slow.
I paid more for the Sea view room, but the staff gave us a city view room.
The room aircond was not cold, so we gave feedback to the front desk, they sent a technician to resolve our aircond issue.
Not really satisfied for this time staying.

I booked two standard rooms for 7 nights from June 23 to 30 in May. We arrived at the hotel at around 7pm on June 23, and a fat, bespectacled, young Chinese male receptionist checked us in. My husband and I had one room, and my mother had one room each. But he gave us a connecting room, the kind with two wooden doors between the two rooms, and one room was a king-size bed room and the other was a standard room. We asked for the two standard rooms we booked, but he said there were only two last rooms, and one of the two rooms was on the 9th floor and the other on the 14th floor. We said that we would stay in the connecting room tonight and change it for us tomorrow, as we would stay for 7 nights and there would always be rooms to check out. He said no, there were none for 7 nights, so that was the only way. I caught a cold that day and needed to take granules, so I asked him if the hotel had disposable cups and hot water, and he said no. Later on the third day, my husband went to the gym on the second floor and saw that there were hot water dispensers and disposable paper cups. We went to the front desk the next day and someone else was at the front desk, so we asked if there were standard rooms, and the answer was yes.
This is our first time staying at this hotel and also our first time meeting this Chinese male receptionist. This hotel was Evergreen Crown Hotel last year and is owned by a government. I wonder if this Chinese male receptionist is a government official from Taiwan? Otherwise, why would he treat us in such a bad way? It's really too much. We are very dissatisfied with this stay!

This is an old five-star hotel. The Chinese lady at the front desk was very friendly and took the initiative to inform me that the minibar in the room was free to use. Although the hotel is a little old, it is well maintained and there is no musty smell in the corridor as mentioned in other reviews. The room furnishings are a bit simple, but spacious enough, and it doesn't seem dim when the lights are on. The only slight shortcoming is that the bathroom is not separated into dry and wet areas, and the bathtub is separated from the toilet by a shower curtain
