Occasionally, you can see cattle and sheep grazing leisurely on the grasslands, a picturesque scene that is truly captivating. - Glacier Express: This is one of Switzerland's most famous scenic trains. Although it's not fast, the scenery along the way is stunning. From Visp to Zermatt, the train follows the Rhone River, passing through deep canyons and over majestic mountains. The journey takes about 2–3 hours. Sitting in the panoramic carriage, the magnificent scenery of the Alps unfolds outside the large windows. Snow-capped peaks, azure glacial lakes, and lush forests—every scene is worth capturing. Please note that reservations are required for the Glacier Express, especially during peak season. It's best to book a few weeks in advance, otherwise, tickets may be sold out. Additionally, Swiss Travel Pass holders can enjoy certain discounts. 🏔️History and Legends The history of the Matterhorn is like a magnificent epic. Its formation began about 50–60 million years ago when the African and Eurasian plates collided violently, pushing up sedimentary rocks from the seabed. After millions of years of weathering and erosion, this near-perfect pyramid-shaped peak was finally sculpted. Before 1865, the Matterhorn was like a distant goddess, rejecting all suitors. Many brave climbers attempted to conquer it, but all returned without success. Until July 14, 1865, when British mountaineer Edward Whymper led a team, overcoming many hardships, and finally reached the summit, becoming the first team to conquer the Matterhorn. However, this triumph was accompanied by tragedy. During the descent, four team members tragically fell to their deaths 1,400 meters below onto the glacier. This disaster shocked the world and made the name of the Matterhorn known everywhere. In local legends, the Matterhorn is the abode of the gods, protecting the land and its people. Every night, the peak shines mysteriously under the moonlight, as if telling ancient and moving stories. 🌄Stunning Features The Matterhorn, standing at 4,478 meters, is an iconic peak in the Alps. Its unique triangular shape resembles a sharp sword piercing the sky, or a sacred pyramid, exuding a solemn and holy aura. The four sides of the peak are steep and rugged, each facing a different direction. The north face overlooks the Swiss town of Zermatt, while the south face guards the Italian ski resort of Breuil-Cervinia. The peak is covered with snow year-round, shining golden in the sunlight, like a golden palace. This is the famous "Golden Summit of the Matterhorn," a dream scene for countless photographers. 📸Best Viewing Platforms Gornergrat: At an altitude of 3,089 meters, this is an excellent location to admire the Matterhorn. Take Switzerland's first electric cogwheel railway, enjoying the scenery along the way. Upon reaching the viewing platform, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Matterhorn, as well as 38 surrounding peaks over 4,000 meters high, and the Gorner Glacier, the second largest glacier in the Alps. Riffelsee: At an altitude of 2,757 meters, this lake is located near Rotenboden, the second to last stop on the Gornergrat railway. This is the best place to photograph the reflection of the Matterhorn. The calm lake surface acts like a mirror, perfectly reflecting the Matterhorn, creating a breathtaking image. Matterhorn Glacier Paradise: At an altitude of 3,883 meters, this is the highest cable car station in Europe. It boasts Europe's highest viewing platform and the world's highest ice palace. Standing on the viewing platform, you can experience the majesty of the Matterhorn up close and see Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps, in the distance. Everyone does know of chocolate called Tobolone. The picture in the package of this chocolate is the matterhorn. no one will bot see this picture before. This place is a quite small town with homey feeling of nice people. The restaurant was very homey called stadel restaurant. The matterhorn is so very beautiful. It is very depend on the weather of that day. If the weather is nice and the cloud is not very cloudy, you will see Matterhorn with the clear picture. one time in the life should be here. It so beautiful and so speechless. The weather was about minus ten but it very fun over there. It will be the place that you would like to come back again

#thingstodo The Matterhorn is a majestic mountain located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The iconic pyramid shape has made it to one of the most famous mountains in the world. In the recent trip to there, I felt really impressed by those incredible scenery. There’s also a building located in Matterhorn and you can go inside those shops to buy some souvenirs and see the history of Matterhorn. It is easy to take the train to the top of the mountain railway station which is called Gornergrat. #matterhorn

Restaurant La Ferme 📍Hofmattstrasse 38, 3920 Zermatt, Switzerland Before visiting Zermatt, I didn’t have high expectations for the food there, but this restaurant’s flavors and atmosphere were truly praiseworthy. The Christmas vibe was absolutely amazing. When I visited, it was snow season, and there were still many people skiing. The restaurant was a bit hard to find. After making a reservation in advance, I went around 7-8 pm. At first, it wasn’t very crowded, but later more guests arrived one after another, with a mix of English and German speakers from various places. Since the restaurant is located in a hotel, it has a great ambiance. With candles, warm yellow lighting, red tablecloths, and Christmas decorations, the atmosphere is perfect for couples and families alike. Braised Beef with Fries This dish had a very German style. The beef was slightly on the tougher side, but the fries were quite good! Salad Very refreshing, with a unique dressing that was a delightful balance of sweet and sour. Baked Shrimp This was quite special. The shrimp weren’t large, but they were tender, fresh, and flavorful without being greasy or fishy—a standout dish! Fish with Salad I can’t recall what type of fish it was, but it was very fresh, with a nice chewy texture and a light flavor. #magicalxmastrip #zermatt

You can also "hunt" for the Valais blacknosed sheep through their GPS tracker.

#CherryBlossom2024 Matterhorn is the iconic mountain 🏔️ in Switzerland. This view is just right around the corner of where we stayed. When we were at Gornergrat, we unable to enjoy the best view of the Matterhorn as it was covered by clouds. So we decided to hop off one of the stations and walk back to where we stay. We were lucky to enjoy the view of Matterhorn during our way down when the sky turned clear. Was a great walk back to where we stayed. Good accompany, good weather and good view.

For visitors travelling around Switzerland by car, you can park at the parking lots in Tasch and take the train to arrive in Zermatt! It offers some of the finest and prettiest views in Switzerland: Swiss alps like the iconic Matterhorn can be seen!
