Taiwan-Streets of Yilan, Mr Brown Cafe

Yilan in Taiwan has lots of interesting places to go. The streets of Yilan looks really retro, like sealed in a time capsule back in the 50s. Look at the KTV and the book shop omg love the feel. Love the street food too! For beef lovers DO NOT miss the beef noodle in Taiwan! Mr Brown cafe is on a hill top. It’s a nice cafe with some grounds to explore in the area. A good place for couples to chill 😎

yilan train station

#taipei the Yilan train station is an art icon in and for Yilan. we are greeted by the art piece once we stepped out of the station. it is very different from other train stations. it is unique and colourful which serves as a main tourist attraction. When you go out from the station, you can find this information center on your left. Jimmy Liao Park is just opposite the station and there's where we start our exploration of Yilan.

Take a trail stroll!

Take a trail stroll!

Another zen place in Taiwan is the JIANQING HISTORIC TRAIL! this is a short trail track but it’s a wonderful place to see an abandoned train track. When you visit hear be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes with grip as it can be slippery. This place has a laid back vibe that makes you want to connect with Nature. It is amazing how nature can take over a place! I’ll be sure to be back here! #mytrip #donnahtheexplorer #taiwan #exploreasia #experiencetaiwan #mytripdiaries #traintracks

Explore the magical Alishan, Taiwan

Explore the magical Alishan, Taiwan

Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. Walking through the misty forest with its giant cypress trees is a magical experience that you’ll never forget. With well-maintained trails, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is very walkable. However, for those who get tired of walking or simply enjoy a ride in an historic train, there’s the Alishan Forest Railway. One of the things Alishan is famous for is its stunning sunrise, where you can see the sun rise above the clouds and from behind the mountains. Since you’re at about 2,000 meters above sea level, the view can be spectacular. To see the sunrise, you take the Alishan Forest Railway early in the morning from Alishan Station, which takes about 25 minutes to reach Zhushan Station. From there, you can walk another 10 minutes to the Xiaoliyuanshan Lookout at nearly 2,500 meters for the best view.

many ways of eating duck at Red Lantern

many ways of eating duck at Red Lantern

we visited Red Lantern restaurant at Silk Place Yilan on the country holiday, and we were told that we needed to order a set menu for 4 even though there were only 3 of us. it's really a very filling but delicious meal (you can takeaway the leftover food). the best dishes we would recommend - 1. Roasted duck nigiri (櫻桃鴨握壽司) - take a bite and the oil got squeezed out of the crispy duck skin, which got soaked up by the rice. the grilled cheese in the mddle added a savoury flavour to it. a unique dish that we had yet tried before. 2. Double-boiled duck bone soup with Chinese cabbage - indeed a flavourful boiled soup that is thick and tasty. 3. Sliced duck meat and skin wrapped in a light scallion crep - the creps were made with the greens of the local Sanshing spring onions (三星蔥) which does not taste "vege" at all. a very light dish, amongst the other more intense flavour dishes, makes it stand out. an expensive set menu, but you get to try out the different cooking methods using the same duck. address 260, Taiwan, Yilan County, Yilan City, Section 2, Minquan Rd, 36號6樓

Cozy Hot Pot Night @ San Fan Jiaoxi

Cozy Hot Pot Night @ San Fan Jiaoxi

We had our dinner in Jiaoxi at Wellspring by Silks Jiaoxi Crystal Spring Hotel, having hot pot together, warming up around the stove for a warm and happy evening. The dinner location is at San Fan Jiaoxi inside the hotel! And we ate the top hot pot set meal of San Fan, the set meal has a variety of fresh seafood and land ingredients, so rich. While tasting the hot pot, you can also enjoy the healthy vegetables here! It displays a full range of fresh vegetables, fruits and frozen shrimp that can be taken and eaten at will. Such a happy evening, everyone also come to have a drink! Japanese hot pot with sake is definitely a perfect match. At this moment, the waiter served the hot pot sauce onions, chili, garlic, soy sauce, sesame sauce and vinegar all have. Then served a super fresh cherry duck salad bowl, I really like the inside has my favorite Taiwanese sweet potato is a sweet opening. The hot pot soup base we ordered has kelp soup or special soup base to choose from, at the same time, the seasonal vegetables in the set meal also jumped into the pot ready for us to enjoy. The first to taste is of course the fresh lobster seafood feast! The lineup is very strong including scallops, oysters, grouper slices, squid slides and lobster, seafood lovers will definitely be very happy. All the seafood is also very attractive but the most tempting is definitely the fresh and chewy lobster, my mouth is super satisfied. The set meal has a variety of meats to choose from, double mix and comprehensive Meat! It includes Taiwanese plum blossom black pork, Spanish Iberian black pork, American top ribeye and American top boneless beef short ribs, whether pork or beef is very fresh and the meat flavor is rich and matches the fragrant soup base very well. Finally, the essence of the soup base is made into a porridge, gathering fresh and delicious flavors in one, it is definitely a devil's call. After eating a rich hot pot, you can also go to the Häagen-Dazs ice cream bar to eat dessert ice cream! At this moment, both salty and sweet stomachs also feel the satisfaction of happiness.

Cherry Duck Feast at Red House Chinese Restaurant

Cherry Duck Feast at Red House Chinese Restaurant

Continuing to share the cherry duck feast in Yilan! Thanks to our friend for booking in advance, the four of us had an incredibly satisfying and happy meal that night. The location is the Red House Chinese Restaurant inside the Silks Place Yilan. The restaurant's cherry duck feast is very famous, and we were so fortunate to taste it. Our friend booked the four-person cherry duck set meal at Red House early! Last year it was TWD$4999, but now it has increased to TWD$5200! As soon as we sat down, the waiter served us complimentary plum vinegar! The sweet and sour taste whetted our appetites and helped to cut through the grease, which was great. Since Dad doesn't like vinegar, he toasted with tea instead! It was a great way to celebrate our first dinner together out of town. The set meal also included a drink for each person. I chose a white sour, which is a yogurt-based cocktail. Its slightly sour taste paired perfectly with the roast duck. First up was the very rich Red House Small Banquet! It included squid, green beans, braised beef, drunken chicken, mustard asparagus, honey pumpkin, and jellyfish. The honey pumpkin had a very special soft texture, and the honey's sweetness made it delicious. For seasonal seafood, we got the special fresh abalone! The restaurant thoughtfully sliced the abalone for easy eating. The chewy abalone paired with the slightly spicy special sauce was very flavorful. The cherry duck was carved tableside by the chef, showcasing the clean and skillful knife work of this Yilan specialty. While watching the chef's performance, we first tasted the braised duck platter! It included flavorful duck wings, duck tongues, and duck feet, with a slightly spicy taste that was very memorable. The second course was cherry duck sushi. The shiny appearance was very eye-catching! The crispy duck skin was fragrant but quite oily, and the sushi rice topped with cheese added a unique milky flavor. The third course used Sanxing scallion pancakes to wrap the tender duck meat! A layer of rich, spicy miso was spread inside, giving it a chewy texture and a strong scallion flavor. Scallion lovers will definitely enjoy it. There was also a very authentic scallion pancake with fried Sanxing scallions! The tender duck meat mixed with the crispy scallions created a salty-sweet taste that was quite good. For the fourth course, we chose the refreshing Summer Cherry! It was a cold dish with stir-fried duck shreds, eggs, and lettuce, drizzled with a special sweet and spicy sauce, making it crispy and flavorful. The final course was a slow-cooked cabbage and duck soup! The large portion surprised us! The rich broth, simmered with duck bones, was very fragrant and sweet, thanks to the large amount of cabbage, making it very thick and not greasy at all. For the chef's special dish, we chose plum sauce ribs! The evenly fatty ribs were tightly wrapped in plum sauce, making them sweet and delicious. After eating so much meat, it was time for some vegetables. We chose water lotus with duck scallion oil! The long, thin water lotus was very crispy and refreshing, and the duck scallion oil added aroma, making it irresistible. For dessert, we had mung bean cakes with egg yolk. They were fragrant, soft, and sweet. The Yilan special dessert was a large pot of taro sago soup. Taiwanese taro is famous for being delicious, and this was no exception. This four-person cherry duck set meal was incredibly rich, and it only cost a little over HKD 300 per person, making it very affordable. If you have the chance to visit Yilan, be sure to try this cherry duck!
