The picturesque and popular Aegiali is located northeast of Amorgos. This is the second largest port of the island, after the port of Katapola. Aegiali is found within a distance of 15 km north east of Chora and it is known as the nightlife spot of Amorgos. The village is concentrated around the bay and it is the starting point for numerous hiking trails. It has a permanent population of 430 inhabitants who are mainly involved with fishing and tourism. During the last years, Aegiali has become popular among tourists for the tourism facilities and the long beach. The monastery of Hozoviotissa, built into a cliff, left me speechless. The island’s wild hiking trails and dramatic cliffs felt like a dream for adventurers. Amorgos has few tourists, plenty of goats, and some of the bluest water I’ve seen. It’s raw, real, and deeply memorable — a secret worth the journey.
