🇭🇷 Second Time on the “Golden Island” – Krk, Croatia | Hidden Mediterranean Paradise 🌊
#croatianislands
Nicknamed the “Golden Island”, Krk has been famous since Roman times as Insula Aurea, thanks to its endless sunshine, crystal-clear waters, and olive groves. Every corner feels like it’s dipped in gold!
Krk is actually Croatia’s largest island, covering 408 square kilometers but home to only around 20,000 residents — which means you can easily escape the crowds and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Even Lonely Planet recommends Krk as one of Europe’s hidden gems — more untouched and authentic than Santorini!
🏝️ Must-Do Experiences:
💙 Island-Hopping Boat Tour:
Booked again via GetYourGuide — this time from Punat port. We explored 5 nearby islands, visited a historic Franciscan monastery, and even spotted griffon vultures on Cres Island. The highlight? Snorkeling in the famous Blue Cave. If you’re lucky, you might even see dolphins along the way! 🐬
🏰 Explore Krk Town (12th Century):
Wander through medieval castles and churches — honestly, every street looks like a scene straight from Game of Thrones! The old town is full of charming souvenir shops and local delicacies — I highly recommend grabbing some truffle paste or truffle-infused olive oil as gifts.
🌊 Beach Time - Relax & Swim:
Krk Island is dotted with beaches. Last year, I went to the popular Koralj Beach, but this time, with limited time, I stayed near Krk Town for a quick swim. On the way back, I accidentally discovered a quiet, hidden bay — barely any people, calm waters, perfect for swimming or paddleboarding. Truly a peaceful, postcard-perfect spot.
If you’re looking for a low-key Mediterranean escape with sunshine, history, and crystal-clear waters — Krk Island deserves a spot on your travel list.
