Renting a car for self-driving tours seems to be becoming more and more common, especially in some suburban or remote areas. This time I rented a car directly on the Toyota Rent-A-Car official website. Personally, I think if you are not interested in a certain brand or car model, you can compare the store location and price to make a choice. 🚗Car models- The main cars available for rent are Japanese cars, and the car rental company will divide the grades according to the vehicle category. Generally, cars will be randomly provided in the same grade, and there are also companies that can provide designated car options for free/for a fee. If you want to rent a specific model, it is recommended to apply for the designated model as soon as possible. I rented a Toyota SP1, which is in the same class as GT86, GR86 and GR Yaris, and the service for designated models was sold out three weeks ago. Pickup process: Bring the required documents: passport, local certified driver's license to the rental store. After confirming your identity, car model, insurance content and return date, the clerk will briefly explain the basic information such as how to use the car navigation and the type of refueling. Then the car condition will be checked. It is recommended to take a video to record the original scratches during this process to avoid disputes over the car condition when returning the car and protect your own rights. This time I was able to pick up the car in about 20 minutes, and the clerk left after the documents were signed. Due to a late-night flight and a delay, I ended up spending more time at Naha Airport than expected. To my surprise, this four-story building turned out to be a great place to explore. The monorail station connects directly to the domestic terminal, and as you walk deeper into the airport, you'll reach the international terminal. Along the way, there are plenty of shops and convenience stores. BigCamera has an Air store here, offering small electronics, cameras, hair dryers, and more—perfect for last-minute purchases if you missed shopping in the city. Muji also has a "to Go" store, featuring travel essentials, clothing, shoes, and socks. If you run out of space, you can even buy a carry-on suitcase here. The drugstore ココカラファイン is as comprehensive as its street-side counterparts, making it easy to stock up on any forgotten items. Additionally, the famous Salt House, known for its salt and ice cream that attract countless tourists on Kokusai Street, has an airport branch here where you can buy snacks and various salts as souvenirs. On the fourth floor, the food court is divided into north and south sections. The northern area offers Okinawan rice balls, Yoshinoya, and Hokkaido curry soup, which always has long lines. The southern area features set meal restaurants and tonkatsu (fried pork cutlets). If you want to avoid the crowds, head to the southern section for a meal and some rest. On the third floor, there's a liquor art gallery where you can sit down, chat with a bartender, and enjoy a relaxing moment. Outside, there's a row of capsule toy machines where you can turn your leftover travel coins into fun souvenirs. Lastly, let's talk about the vending machines. In Okinawa, you'll often see vending machines promoting "local production for local consumption" beverages. 0. I finally visited Okinawa, a place I had always wanted to go, with my partner. I thought 3 days and 2 nights would be enough, but it didn’t take long to realize how wrong I was. While the abundance of tourist spots was one reason, the sweltering weather and unique terrain also played a big part. In the end, I felt regretful because there were so many places we couldn’t visit. 1. Day 1 We found a beautiful and affordable hotel, the 5-star Ryukyu Hotel in the southern area (the hotel itself is artistically stunning). However, since there was nothing around the hotel, we checked in at 5:30 PM, rested briefly, and then drove an hour to the famous American Village. ‘Ah... we should’ve just stayed in this area for the first night...’ ‘Such a beautiful and charming place, but I can’t even enjoy a beer because I have to drive back...’ After another hour-long drive, we returned to the Ryukyu Hotel for the night. 2. Day 2 After checking out at 11 AM, we decided to visit Sesoko Beach, said to be the most beautiful beach. It’s a 2-hour drive from Ryukyu Hotel. Parking costs 10,000 won for the whole day. Renting a parasol and sunbed costs 42,000 won. The sea is breathtakingly beautiful, so it’s worth it. After enjoying the beach, we headed to our second hotel, Moon Beach Museum Resort (1 hour from Sesoko Beach). The hotel has an izakaya nearby, the resort is beautiful, and the price is reasonable—very satisfying. The biggest downside is that the outdoor pool only has about 10 sunbeds, which was inconvenient. The staff didn’t offer much help. However, the stunning scenery and atmosphere made up for it. 3. Day 3 After checking out, we visited Umikaji Terrace. Every photo you take here looks like a magazine cover. There’s very little shade, so you end up buying drinks frequently. After returning the rental car, we said goodbye to Okinawa. — Final Thoughts: ° Avoid Ryukyu Hotel unless you have a relaxed schedule. But it’s an incredibly stylish and stunning hotel. ° American Village alone is worth it. Avoid the midday heat and visit around sunset. ° Sesoko Beach: The water is shallow and safe, with emerald-green seas. However, unless you plan to snorkel, it might not be worth the long trip. ° Moon Beach Museum Resort: A great value-for-money hotel! Highly recommended except for the sunbed issue. However, there were so many Korean tourists—almost too many, haha. ° Umikaji Terrace: Close to the airport, so it’s perfect for a quick 1-2 hour visit before your flight home. Thank you!

Every time I visit Okinawa, I make sure to stop by this izakaya. This time, one meal wasn't enough, so I planned for two. Upon landing, I headed straight to Ikesu no Ginji (Shintoshin branch), a place I visited last time. Unfortunately, my favorite sea urchin rice ball was replaced with a new version—sad. For the second meal, I decided to check out Mekiki no Ginji (Shintoshin branch), which has a Studio Ghibli vibe (P1). However, when I arrived at 5:40 PM, the daily specials of fresh shrimp sashimi and grilled prawns were already sold out! Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Always try the daily specials. Although the fresh shrimp was sold out, the daily oysters (P3) at JPY 400 each were incredibly fresh and sweet—a must-try. 2️⃣ My personal favorite and obsession is the sea urchin rice ball with raw egg dipping sauce (P2)—you'll miss it once you've tried it. 3️⃣ A general recommendation is the sea urchin sauce grilled oysters on a hot plate (P4). 4️⃣ Reservations are absolutely necessary. I usually ask the hotel I'm staying at to make the reservation, specifying the date, time, number of people, and even the end time. 5️⃣ For the best photo opportunity at the Studio Ghibli-style entrance, aim for around 6:30 PM. The lighting is perfect—just as the sky starts to darken but hasn't fully turned night, and the lights are beautifully lit.

"Hotel Halekulani Okinawa" was the best hotel I've ever stayed at👍🏻👍🏻🩷 The ocean was right in front of the rooms and the hotel had 5 pools I recommend this hotel for a firefly stay!
