The scenery from Anaga rural park really is breathtaking and such a surprise. I didn’t realise there was so much greenery on Tenerife - and that’s the thing, Tenerife is so much more than the arid landscape that so many people imagine it to be. There’s many trails and hikes that can be done here, but we opted for sendero de los sentidos or trail of the senses in English. It’s an easy hike but the views that you’ll be treated to are no less impressive. This is the cruz del Carmen viewpoint. You’ll also be able to see the city of La Laguna from this vantage point. Public transport: Buses (guaguas), taxis and car rentals are popular with tourists. Papas arrugadas: Small potatoes with salted skins, served with mojo sauce. Gofio: Typical wheat flour used in many dishes. Fresh fish, lamb and local cheeses are also very popular. Tenerife is a major European tourist destination, especially for tourists from the UK, Germany and Scandinavia. The island is suitable for family holidays, honeymoons, adventure tourism (mountains, sea and caves), relaxation and spa.

This is La Orotava. Touted as one of the prettiest towns in Tenerife, this was were I chose to stay during my recent visit to the island. Situated on the north of the island, this charming town is on the foothills of the sprawling Mount Teide. Let me show you around this beautiful town, and surely you’ll see why this place needs to be included on your itinerary during your holiday to Tenerife. Maybe, just like me, you’ll decide that this too needs to be your base whilst staying on the island. Having checked into our airbnb, a beautiful and spacious villa on the outskirts of town, it was time to explore the old town. With its location on the slopes of Mount Teide, there are views that sprawl across the town right down to the Atlantic. Founded in the early 1500’s shortly after the Spanish conquest, La Orotava is one of the oldest towns in the Canary Islands. That means that this town is home to some beautiful architecture, with its pastel buildings and cobbled streets being particularly pleasing on the eye. Make sure you spend some time wandering around these streets to soak in the ambience of the area. In La Orotava, you’ll also find some molino’s or mills - many of which date back to the 17th or 18th centuries. There’s plenty of cafe’s in town. And after a stop for breakfast at Dulce Orotava, it was time to head over to La Orotava’s big tourist atracción. We now entered into Casa de los Balcones, a beautiful mansion transformed into a museum. As you can see, the many balconies on display are what have given it its name. With its foundations dating back to 1632, this house showcases what life would have been like for the Canarians in the 19th Century. The Villa is beautiful, painstakingly restored to its former glory, with many local art and handiwork exhibits on display. It’s a great way to spend a bit of time whilst wandering through the town, and the entry fee is reasonable as well at 6 euros. After another walk taking in the sights of the Old Town, such as the impressive iglesia de la concepción, it was time to head for some food. There’s no better place to head to than a guachinche. Visiting a guachinche is a must do whilst in Tenerife. It’s where the locals hang out and you’ll find typical Canarian food here - such as the goat stew that I enjoyed. All in all, La Orotava is the perfect base when visiting Tenerife. #travel #spain #tenerife

Tenerife delivered an incredible blend of excitement and natural beauty that exceeded every expectation. Our adventure began at Siam Park, a world-renowned waterpark that transformed an ordinary day into an extraordinary experience. Towering slides and massive wave pools created an adrenaline-fueled playground that left us breathless with excitement. The park’s Thai-inspired design added an exotic touch to our water adventures. Tornado slides spun us with wild abandon, while the lazy river offered moments of peaceful respite. Each attraction was a new opportunity for heart-stopping fun, with screams of joy echoing throughout the park. Our maritime exploration continued with a private boat rental that unveiled Tenerife’s stunning coastline. Cutting through the crystal-clear Atlantic waters, we discovered a world of natural wonder. Dramatic volcanic landscapes framed our journey, creating a backdrop of unparalleled beauty. The real magic happened when a pod of dolphins joined our voyage, racing alongside the boat in a display of pure maritime joy. We anchored in a secluded bay, diving into waters so transparent we could see every detail of the ocean floor. Snorkeling revealed a vibrant underwater world, with colorful fish darting between rocky formations. Tenerife proved to be more than just a destination – it was an experience that captured our hearts. From the thrilling waterpark to the serene sailing, every moment was a perfect blend of excitement and natural beauty.

1. Address - Playa del Bollullo 🏖️ Highlights - such a beautiful beach. I would definitely recommend renting a car here so you can drive from beach to beach. So accessible by car + parking is very available all around. If you go at the right time it’s must less crowded than around peak times. Rating - 10/10 2. Address - Parque Nacional Del Teide ⛰️ Highlights - something a bit different than just your typical beach. Kind of like a mini hike vibe where you can walk up and get a beautiful views of the surrounds mountains from the top. Very quiet location so you honestly won’t see that many people around! Rating - 10/10 3. Address - Los 500 Escalones El Sauzal 🌅 Highlights - the perfect destination for a sunrise or sunset location. Sunrise is much less busier than sunset so I’d definitely recommend for sunrise - especially if you want a more romantic scene! Rating - 100/10

This isn't a seasonal escape; it's mainland Europe's thermostat, providing 300 days of sunshine and extending daylight for six million sufferers of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Mount Teide on Tenerife is the first to catch winter's initial rays. A thin layer of snow covers the 3,718-meter-high crater, while the scent of sunscreen drifts through Santa Cruz port below. Olaf, a Norwegian, jogs along the beach in a t-shirt. His fitness tracker shows this is his seventh consecutive winter escaping Oslo's polar night. "Here, every inch of skin absorbs vitamin D." On the beach behind him, an elderly German man pushes his wife, who suffers from depression, in a wheelchair, letting the subtropical sand sift through her pale fingers. The Maspalomas Dunes on Gran Canaria conceal the wrinkles of time. A 15th-century Spanish watchtower stands across the dunes from the white walls of a 21st-century Nordic sanatorium. In a spa hotel at the foot of the dunes, a Swedish doctor administers light therapy. Data shows that the incidence of winter depression in the islands is 67% lower than in Northern Europe. A 1975 photograph hangs in the hotel corridor: Sanmao, in a bohemian dress, walks across the dunes, while in the lens of José's camera, the sand reflects the same sunlight as today. La Palma's Starlight Reserve offers another healing space. While mainland Europe is shrouded in clouds, a Danish astronomer adjusts his telescope at the observatory. "The polar night deprives us not only of light but also of our perception of the universe." He points to a white village beneath the Milky Way. The bell once guided Columbus's fleet and now directs Nordic cruise ships to shore. In the nearby fish market, Moroccan fishermen and Spanish vendors haggle in a mix of dialects. Sanmao memorabilia—coconut shell necklaces, desert scarves—remind people that this Eastern writer planted her Saharan nostalgia in Gran Canaria's soil in the 1970s. The Church of San Cristobal in Tenerife witnesses transtemporal rituals. Every Sunday, Nordic visitors and locals share in the sacrament of sunlight: Norwegian housewives dry linen beneath Gothic arches, German painters capture light and shadow in Moorish cloisters, and their children chase Spanish children in the square, their footprints overlapping Sanmao's. Church archives record that at José's funeral in 1976, islanders spontaneously sent 99 yellow roses. Today, descendants of those roses grow wild outside the cemetery walls. The islands' affordability is revealed in corner cafes. A latte costs €1.50, 40% less than in Madrid. A Swedish backpacker can stay here for three months for less than a week in the Maldives. In a weaving shop in San Bartolomé, 82-year-old Maria weaves baskets from palm leaves, just as her great-grandmother did for Sanmao, crafting coconut shells to hold water. "The Chinese girl loved to watch the sunset from the pier. She said the twilight here resembled the Sahara." Subtropical sunlight is embedded in the old woman's wrinkles, and the patterns in her weaving are the islands' love letter to the European winter. When the polar night finally ends in Northern Europe, faded sunscreen marks remain on the beaches of the Canary Islands. But the islands know that the wounds kissed by the sun, the eyes awakened between volcanoes and waves, have etched the islands' warmth into the rings of life. This is not a winter retreat, but another heart of mainland Europe, beating with the hope of daylight at a constant 22°C.
