When I looked for buses from Puno to Copagabana, only early morning or expensive flights came up, so I looked for other options and found this. Puno Go to Terminal Zonal Sur, a few hundred meters from the terminal where the tourist buses depart (no reservation required). There, go to the place with the word Yunguyo written in large letters, tell them the number of people, and get on the shared taxi waiting there. Just under two hours, 13 soles/person (July, 2025) When you arrive at Yunguyo, hand over 13 soles to the driver. There will be a TukTuk waiting where you get off, so just tell them you want to go to the border or say Bolivia. TukuTuku, 2.6km from Yunguyo to the border 2 people can ride in one car, 2 soles per car (just over 30 minutes if you walk) Border Peru Immigration is the same counter for entry and exit, so just tell them "To Bolivia" or "Peru to Bolivia". After getting the stamp, go out the entrance you came in through and go left to the Bolivian side, then go to the building on the left with Migration written on it. People from other countries pay for a visa, but it's free for Japanese people. Previous information said that you have to use Wifi and register online, but that wasn't the case and they didn't ask me anything. They just stamped me and that was it. As I left Bolivian immigration, there was a money exchange run by an old man on the left that had a good rate for exchanging soles into bolivians. It was better than the rate I heard in Copagabana, and I regret not exchanging everything. 1 soles 4.1 boliviano (more than twice the official rate) There was also a money exchange on the Peru side that was 1 sole 4 boliviano A white van was waiting about 50m from immigration, and if you say Copagapana, they'll tell you to get in. 5 boliviano per person (50 yen because we were able to exchange at a good rate from Peru soles) Total of about 610 yen per person from Puno for two people😁 Even if you go alone, it's super cheap at 650 yen Shared taxis run all day, so you don't have to go early in the morning, and best of all, it's faster than the bus. The ride is less comfortable than the bus, but it's fine for about 2 hours. No bus terminal fee required (toilet is required) No need to wait for other people at immigration, and it's fast and smooth. If you're going on this route, I recommend you try it #Copacabana

About Puno Known as the gateway city for crossing the border into Bolivia (Located at an altitude of 3,827 meters, higher than Mount Fuji) Situated in the central Andes Mountains, next to Lake Titicaca An 8-hour bus ride from Cusco Many people might just pass through Puno by bus, but that would be a waste. I highly recommend staying overnight and enjoying a walk around the city. You can also join a tour to explore the islands. Unlike Lima or Cusco, Puno is not overcrowded, has many pedestrian-only streets, and is well-maintained, making it feel like the most organized city in Peru. Above all, it’s peaceful and relaxing. Near the lake, you’ll encounter persistent offers for tours to the Uros Islands, but since we planned to visit the islands on the Bolivian side, we skipped this. We kept politely declining with "No gracious." Puno Cathedral, Plaza Mayor de Puno Start your day with a visit to the cathedral and the city park. The fountain is beautiful, and the park feels like a place where locals come to relax. The area is clean, and the colorful buildings around make it enjoyable just to walk and explore. Cerrito Huajsapata Next, head to the hill with a statue of the Sun God standing atop a 60-meter rock. The path to the viewpoint is marked with blue signs, making it easy to find. Although the altitude and steep slopes can be challenging, the route is straightforward, and taking it slow makes it manageable. The blue skies and stunning views are worth the effort. Mirador El Condor Continue to the Condor Viewpoint. The entrance is also marked with blue signs, making it easy to locate. This spot features over 700 steps, and even locals take breaks while climbing. There’s a small shop on the left side of the path where you can buy drinks. You can climb up to the viewpoint below the condor statue and enjoy breathtaking views. The effort is well-rewarded. Bringing snacks and drinks for the climb is a good idea. Puerto Luis Banchero Rossi Afterward, descend to the lakeside area to see the Puno sign. The air near the lake is refreshing, and there’s a promenade where you can enjoy a leisurely walk under the blue sky. [Barco cevichero] While walking around to check bus schedules, I stumbled upon a long line of people. Curious, I found out it was for a ceviche specialty shop, with over 50 people waiting. I had just eaten ceviche at another restaurant, so I regretted not trying this place. This shop must offer unique ceviche that you won’t find elsewhere. It’s rare to see such a long line at a restaurant in Peru, so it was surprising. Most people seemed to be locals taking their orders to go, and the line moved quickly, so the wait wouldn’t be too long. If you visit Puno, you must try this place. The fact that locals were lining up speaks volumes about its quality. Other restaurants in Puno are also reasonably priced, and the people are incredibly kind. Whether using a translation app or body language, everyone is helpful, making the city feel welcoming. I highly recommend staying and taking your time to enjoy it.

Getting There - These places are located in Peru, near to the border with Bolivia. You can take a one hour and a half hour flight from Lima to Juliaca, and then a one hour bus or taxi to Puno. Attractions - The splendid mountains are part of this charming area, with vast golden flora all over the place. Once you arrive to Puno, the deep blue sky and marvelous blue waters of the Titikaka Lake will take your breath away. Hotels - For a full and outstanding experience, I recommend to stay at the Titilaka Relais & Chateaux Hotel in Plareria, 50 km away from the city of Puno. Food & Restaurants -  The food is mainly based in fish and seafood, although the Hotel Titilaka is an all inclusive experience and they have a gourmet kitchen with varieties of spices, seeds and vegetables from the area. Shopping - Mainly totora souvenirs made from this plant of the lake. Wool extraordinary works made from Alpaca, compose a collection of sweaters, blankets, gloves and other beautiful handcrafts.
