This time I tried to look at the Seto Ohashi Bridge while riding the Seto Ohashi Bridge Line. The Seto Ohashi Bridge Line also passes over the Seto Ohashi Bridge, so it seems difficult to take pictures, but there is a point along the way where it curves, so I aimed to take pictures there. This train is the Rapid Marine Liner, which connects Okayama and Takamatsu, and if you make a reservation in advance, you can enjoy the panoramic seats in the front car (separate reserved seat fee required). The train I rode this time was a regular car for which no fee is charged, but the interior has reversible cross seats, so if you can secure a seat, it is very comfortable and a good train for taking pictures.

Honestly, I wondered if a tourist facility run by a soy sauce company was really that interesting... But when I went, I found it to be full of culture, art, and history! I am currently touring towers across Japan. My challenge is to visit the top 20 tallest towers based on their height. So far, I have visited 18 towers, and my journey will conclude with a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokyo in May, including stops in Akita and Yokohama. Among the 18 towers, the Seto Bridge Tower, ranked 11th in height, was a unique experience during my early March trip. Unlike other towers, this one does not have an elevator or an observation deck, as it is more of a building structure. To give you an idea, think of the Lotte World Gyro Drop. The Seto Bridge Tower operates like an amusement ride. Every 20 minutes, a circular platform resembling a flying saucer ascends 100 meters into the sky while rotating, then descends back down. The entire experience lasts about 10 minutes. You can sit in place and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. Unlike the Gyro Drop, there are no safety bars; you sit on plastic chairs inside an enclosed space with windows, so you are not affected by the wind. The tower is equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience even during summer or winter. Previously, I visited the Gold Tower, which features an aquarium inside its observation deck, creating a mystical atmosphere. In contrast, the Seto Bridge Tower’s observation deck is located in the middle of a bridge over the sea, giving you the sensation of floating above the water. Initially, the ascent and rotation might feel a bit scary, sending chills down your spine, but you quickly adapt. It’s like riding a soft version of the Gyro Drop without the free fall. Its open structure allows you to enjoy views from both the lower and upper levels. If you’re traveling to Takamatsu or Okayama, you can reach the tower via Sakai Station, where a local bus operates four times a day, making it accessible by public transportation. Traveling between Shikoku and Chugoku used to mean taking the JR train, which could save a lot on transportation costs if you had a JR Pass. However, the downside was the need to transfer trains, which involved lugging your luggage between platforms. This time, upon a local friend's recommendation, I took an intercity bus from Matsuyama in Ehime to Okayama. Not only was the journey smooth and comfortable, but the cost was also several thousand yen cheaper than taking the JR train. Let’s talk about the bus experience. The departure point in Matsuyama is Matsuyama Station, but since I was staying near Okaido, I boarded the bus there, saving myself the hassle of backtracking. I must commend Japan's punctuality—the bus arrived exactly on schedule. Tickets were purchased in advance at the Iyo Bus Okaido Service Center, and the driver assisted with loading luggage and confirming seats. The entire trip took about three hours, which is roughly the same as taking the JR train. Midway, the bus stopped at Toyohama Rest Area in Kagawa before crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge. Marugame is very close to Takamatsu. We took a two-day self-drive trip and checked in at most of the famous spots. The road conditions were good, and although it was New Year's, there were more cars than usual, but we could still find parking lots.
