oi-gawa kawagoshi ruins banyado
this historic site which has been a hidden gem. i stumbled upon this neighborhood during my trip to shimada city and was fascinated to read the history of the remain buildings of this beautiful post town which was located on the edo side of the oi river. what happened was the tokugawa era forbid the construction of any bridges or ferry services over the oi river. the procedure to cross the river was to have travelers to purchase a crossing permit and to be carried across the river either on the back of the poters or by palanquin. so this beautiful wooden banyado was built for people to gathered to rest, to make crossing and tickets were sold. #historicalsites #historicallandmarks

I went to Horaibashi Bridge over the Oi River in Shizuoka, known as the longest wooden footbridge in the world!
It is a wooden footbridge with a total length of 897.4 meters and a width of 2.4 meters.
It is still used as a farm road, but unfortunately, due to construction work, I was only able to go partway across!
When the weather is good, you can see the World Heritage site Mt. Fuji!!

[Shizuoka Trip] The world's longest wooden pedestrian bridge
Horaibashi Bridge is a wooden pedestrian bridge spanning the Oi River, with a total length of 897.4m.
Long trees = long-lived bridges,
and the bridge's total length of 897.4 (yaku-nashi = no misfortune) is a play on words, making it a popular bridge for good luck.
The bridge has supported people's lives for over 100 years, despite being hit by various natural disasters,
and not only does it give a sense of history,
but it also gives a sense of something invisible that is filled with people's thoughts,
and is full of such charms.
There are many tourist attractions in the surrounding area, so why not include it in your travel plans?
Please come and visit! !

When in Ieyama's sakura tunnel
#cherryblossom25 I’m a fan of sakura so I would definitely go to the places where there are cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom tunnel and the leyama river bank were in full bloom.
It happened to be the time when the Oigawa Railway's EL train was passing, and I was excited to press the shutter.
The pale pink cherry blossom tunnel seemed to make me lose track of time.
The cherry blossoms on the south bank of the leyama River are within reach, and this is a recommended course where you can feel the cherry blossoms up close.

A break for ice cream at Yamase Kien during a drive through Kawane Town.
#EnjoyJapan
While driving through Kawane-cho,
I stopped off at Yamasekien,
a tea-producing area, to have some ice cream!
I ordered hojicha flavor,
but it was “powdered hojicha,” so it was a little disappointing...
But the atmosphere of the shop was homey, and it was just the right place to take a break during my trip!
I'm curious about the other flavors, and I'd like to try them again.
⸻

⸻
English Summary
Stopped at Yamasekien during a drive in Kawanehoncho.
Tried the roasted tea (houjicha) flavored ice cream — it used powdered tea,
so it felt a bit underwhelming, but the local charm made it a sweet break spot.

Ramen and Shizuoka Oden?! Don't underestimate "Taiyakiya"
#0 yen trip
I thought it was a sweet shop because of the name "Taiyakiya"... but it's actually a shop full of local flavor with delicious ramen and Shizuoka oden!
It's in Ieyama, Kawane-cho, Shimada-shi, and I stopped by on a little road trip and it was a big hit.
The ramen has a traditional light soy sauce flavor that's comforting.
The Shizuoka oden has black fish cake in it, and the flavor is so strong that it makes you want a beer (lol)
It's a shop where locals gather, and the unpretentious atmosphere was great.
If I didn't know about this place, I would probably just pass it by, but I'm really glad I stopped by!

Don’t be fooled by the name—“Taiyaki-ya” isn’t just about sweets!
This cozy little shop in Kawane-cho, Shimada City, serves up surprisingly delicious ramen and Shizuoka-style oden.
The ramen was a classic soy sauce flavor, light but full of umami.
And the oden? Packed with flavor, especially the kuro hanpen fish cake—so good I almost wished I had a beer to go with it!
The place has a relaxed, homey vibe and seems like a local favorite.
It’s the kind of spot you might drive right past if you didn’t know about it, but I’m so glad I stopped by!

[Shizuoka] 897.4m?! Japan's longest wooden bridge, Horai Bridge, built in 1879
#Spring0yenTrip
In Shimada, I headed for Horaibashi Bridge over the Oi River. On my walk from the station, I was surrounded by the quiet, laid-back townscape, and my mind naturally calmed. When I arrived at Horaibashi Bridge, I was surprised at how long it was. The wooden bridge stretches 897.4 meters straight over the river, and has a mysterious charm that makes you want to walk on it just by looking at it. When I actually crossed it, the creaking of my feet, the sound of the wind, and the gentle sound of the Oi River flowing were soothing, and time seemed to flow slowly. Looking back, the town and mountain scenery beyond the bridge spread out like a painting. Rather than a tourist spot, I felt like I was experiencing a special landscape in everyday life, and it was an unforgettable walk.

Chasing Sakura at Shimada
#cherryblossom25 The Mizume-zakura of Ushinshiro
📍 Shimada, Shizuoka Prefecture
This Edo-higan cherry tree is estimated to be over 300 years old and stands approximately 20 meters tall. Positioned amidst terraced tea fields, the tree’s delicate pink blossoms create a striking contrast against the lush greenery, offering a picturesque scene that attracts visitors.
#sakura #cherryblossom #shizuoka #japan #nature #naturelovers #naturephotography #naturetravellerinjapan
Sakura season is here again! This year I discovered a super niche treasure trove of cherry blossom viewing - Oigawa Railway in Shizuoka Prefecture🚂 This is an Albert-style railway full of retro charm. When it meets the romantic cherry blossoms, the limited romance is really amazing!
Compared to those popular cherry blossom viewing spots that are crowded, this place has fewer people and beautiful scenery, allowing you to enjoy the cherry blossoms alone. Walking along the Oigawa Railway, the surroundings are quiet and beautiful, as if you have accidentally entered a pink dream world. On both sides of the railway tracks, cherry trees are in full bloom, and the tender pink flowers are like clouds and rosy clouds. The breeze blows gently, and the petals fall down and sprinkle on the rails, forming a unique pink flower path. Every frame of the picture is so beautiful that it makes people intoxicated💕
When the retro train slowly approaches, the atmosphere is at its peak! The train whirrs through the cherry blossom tunnel, as if it came out of an anime. Every frame can be used as a wallpaper! Sitting on the train, the cherry blossoms outside the window flew by like a movie scene. If you stretch out your hand, you can feel that you can touch the delicate petals. The immersive experience of cherry blossom viewing is really fascinating.
In addition to taking the train to enjoy the cherry blossoms, there are many places around the railway that are perfect for taking photos and checking in. Find a spot under a cherry tree, spread out a picnic mat, and enjoy a spring picnic with your friends. Add in the falling cherry blossoms, and any photo you take will be a blockbuster.
My dears, seize this brief but beautiful time and come to Oigawa Railway to experience an undisturbed pink spring romance!

Tables, chairs, books, succulents, etc. made from old wood...time flows slowly in this shop. Please enjoy a relaxing time with a cup of aromatic coffee, carefully brewed in a siphon using coffee beans roasted by Nakayama Coffee Store, and a fluffy omelet rice. "Omelet rice with tomato sauce and grilled cheese topping" is made by pouring ketchup over rice to make the most of the crunchy texture of the black rice, and then topping it with a fluffy omelet made with plenty of butter. Tomato sauce seasoned simply with ketchup is poured generously over the omelet, and finally the melted cheese is grilled over a burner to complete the dish.
