[3 days, 1 night] Jakarta weekend travel guide and experience
📅Itinerary Schedule
☀️Saturday, June 19, 2023
🛫 Depart Narita Airport at 11:00 on JL725 and arrive at Jakarta International Airport at 16:50✈️. After immigration procedures, we went straight to the hotel and checked in🏨. After that, we enjoyed our first Indonesian meal at a local restaurant🍴✨. The spicy and fragrant food was even more delicious than we expected!

🕗 Get up early and start sightseeing!
1️⃣Monas (Independence Monument) 🗼
A 132-meter-tall monument that can be said to be the symbol of Jakarta. The golden tip of the tower is eye-catching and beautiful! From the observation deck, you can see the whole cityscape of Jakarta🌆. It is a place with historical significance.
2️⃣Istiqlal Mosque 🕌
The largest mosque in Southeast Asia, I was amazed by its overwhelming scale✨. The splendor of Islamic architecture and the tranquil atmosphere are soothing. Non-Muslims can also visit, so it was a good opportunity to learn about multiculturalism😊.
3️⃣Jakarta Cathedral ⛪
A beautiful Gothic-style church located right across from Istiqlal Mosque. The white walls and tall spires are impressive, and the sight of different religious facilities next to each other made me feel the diversity of Jakarta✨.
🌇 In the afternoon, I went to an area where shopping malls are concentrated! There is a wide range of shops, from luxury brand stores to local general stores, and window shopping is also fun🎁. I enjoyed afternoon tea at a cafe and soothed my travel fatigue☕🍰.
In the evening, I departed Jakarta on flight JL726 departing at 21:55🛫. I spent the night on board🌅.
☀️Monday, June 21, 2023
7:25am. Arrived in Japan.
💡Travel impressions
🌏 A casual trip across the equator for 2 nights and 3 days!
Jakarta was a more charming city than I expected.
Three things I felt:
1. 🍛 The food was delicious! Everything was delicious, including the nasi goreng and satay.
2. 🚧 Infrastructure is under construction. The city is modernizing, but there are still many areas that are still developing.
3. 🤝 People are very kind! I was helped many times by the warmth of the local people.
🌟 However, I felt that it was a city with a very large gap between rich and poor. The luxurious areas were as good as any big city in the world, while the old areas were like a provincial city in Japan in the 1990s. I was surprised that this contrast was next to each other, separated by a single wall😮.
My personal ranking of major cities in Southeast Asia:
Singapore 🇸🇬 > Bangkok 🇹🇭 > Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 > Manila 🇵🇭 > Ho Chi Minh 🇻🇳 > Jakarta 🇮🇩 > Hanoi 🇻🇳
🤣 One last thing...
💸 The number of zeros in the Indonesian rupiah is confusing! I couldn't put my calculator down every time I paid (lol).

Scootin’ off from Jogja YIA 🛫
The end of a holiday is always a bittersweet moment as the end of one trip always means that we can start looking forward to the next one already 😂
As I depart from Yogyakarta with Scoot TR201, I thought it might be useful to others to document my experience here.
Arriving at Yogyakarta airport (YIA) on the airport express train, it is just a short walk and a few escalators up to the departure concourse. Today’s check-in counter was at B17-19. While I have already performed online check-in and had a mobile boarding pass, I wanted to tag this flight to my Krisflyer frequent flyer account. This could be done at the counter. At the counter, the staff also offered to check-in my hand carry baggge as Scoot was trying to alleviate the space crunch. Forward thinking by Scoot 👍
Once they was done, we whizzed over to airport security as there was not much to do in the departure concourse. Past airport security, there are a couple of shops and restaurants including Starbucks, Circle K, De Wave (massage) etc. Also, don’t miss the fantastic views of the runway and the sea from here!
I find YIA’s current airport layout unique as international flights depart only from gates 1C to 1F and there is yet another layer of security check and passport control to get to these gates. The transit area that we first entered was for domestic flights only.
Our flight to Singapore was departing from gate 1E. 1.5 hour to our flight departure, the gantry to these gates opened. In this international transit area, there are no shops, so if you want to get any last minute snack or souvenirs, it would be better to get it in the domestic transit area!
30 mins before scheduled departure, boarding commenced and the ground staff separated us into 2 queues - 1 for board me first passengers, and the other for normal passengers. Boarding was smooth and while cabin locker space was in high demand , it was still sufficient for all passengers. Really kudos to Scoot for encouraging passengers to check-in cabin baggage where possible.
Now, where to next? 🤔

To me, Hong Kong is a city that has so much to offer - culture, outdoors, nightlife, food and history! I want to travel to Hong Kong to visit Disneyland, the artistic K9 mall at Tsim Sha Tsui, eat the milk pudding at Yee Shun Dairy Co. and...so much more!
Yogyakarta’s 35min Airport Express
The KAI Airport Express from Yogyakarta International Airport to Yogyakarta City was super cool! It was like a fast train ride through the beautiful Indonesian countryside. The seats were comfy and there was plenty of space for my luggage. I loved looking out the window and seeing all the palm trees and rice fields whizzing by. The train was on time, modern and clean, and the staff were really nice and helpful. It was way faster than taking a taxi or bus, so we got to the city in no time! Plus, it was fun to experience something new and different. I would totally recommend the KAI Airport Express to anyone visiting Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta International Airport
#weekendgetaways
Yogyakarta is a special region in Indonesia, where they have their own king and everything! The airport is recently renovated and was opened back in 2020. Even now arriving in 2023, most of the architecture still looks pretty fresh and modern.
Besides looking at the design of the airport, something to note is how clean it is. There’s not a lot of litter, if not none at all, around the vicinity. And dust is kept to a minimum.
Lastly, the international airport is how organised and smooth the passenger experience is. Right after leaving baggage claim, everything at the arrival hall is labelled so well making it really easy to find your way around. Just fantastic and really much appreciated.
[Indonesia] I went from Jakarta to Yogyakarta!
I flew from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to New Yogyakarta Airport in Yogyakarta! It was a low-cost carrier, so the cabin was a little cramped, but the flight was only about an hour, so I had no trouble.
When I fly in Indonesia, I always enjoy the spicy smell.
I don't understand much Indonesian, but I was able to communicate in English, so I felt at ease.

Welcome to the new Jogja Airport
After the Covid-19 long lock down, I eventually have the opportunity to re-visit Yogyakarta again, especially by flight. In this post you will have a glimpse of the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).
Of course, this new airport is far away from Yogyakarta city compared to the old airport (Adisucipto International Airport), it’s approximately 1.5-2 hours drive. However, the Keretapi Indonesia (KAI) airport train had well connected to the city, which means you only need 40 minutes to arrive the heart of Yogyakarta with just 20K.

Beautiful Airport
Although i was living in Yogyakarta, this was a first time for me to visit this airport. I love this airport because it’s so pretty. the design is good and modern and it’s way prettier if we compared to the adi sucipto airport. this airport also way bigger compared to Adi sucipto airport. I like this airport and i am eager to visit this airport again soon. The transportation from airport to yogyakarta is also easy because you can book a train or go with public transportation such as small and big bus or you can order online transportation. also if you want to make a quick you can order the taxi although it is more expensive compared to other public transportation

WOMBATS COFFEE
On my way back to Jogja yesterday, I took the time to stop by @wombatscoffee which has been on my wishlist for a long time. This coffee shop, run by Mr. Magic Indonesia @efenerr, is located in the Jalan Wijilan housing complex. A simple place with quite a lot of seating areas, I really like the atmosphere here which is very calm and cool, typical of Jogja. Yesterday I was treated to several mainstay menus such as mont blanc, banana bread, and of course the delicious hot magic mainstay menu.

New Yogyakarta International Airport: Gateway to Tradition and Modernity
#getgoing2025
Landing at the New Yogyakarta International Airport was like stepping into a blend of tradition and modern elegance. The architecture, inspired by Javanese culture, was a warm welcome to the city’s heritage. Wide-open spaces, intricate batik motifs, and efficient facilities made my arrival seamless and delightful. It wasn’t just an airport; it was an introduction to Yogyakarta’s rich and vibrant identity.

The most delicious fried chicken in Jakarta
Had a chance to go to Indonesia for 3 days, did my research well that their fried chicken is delicious. We lived our lives eating fried chicken every day, starting from Family Mark fried chicken, Mc KFC fried chicken, fried chicken with chili sauce. Until we were about to go back, we wanted something sweet, so we came to find ice cream to eat. But we secretly saw AW fried chicken. It looked thin and crispy and delicious, so we lightly ordered 2 pieces. It was very delicious, everyone. If we weren't already full, we would have definitely ordered the jumbo set. #Get a discount without relying on luck

Yogyakarta Airport Kulonprogo
#weekendgetaways in #indonesia , #yogyakarta ! I went on Sunday and it was an impromptu trip to the newest Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) located at Kulonprogo. It's my first time in this city and I have to do some research on it. This place is super far from city, so we have to take express train towards city.
Welcomed by many artistic things and decoration, I can feel this city rich tradition. From its andong display, to the signboard which is still in sanskrit that bring me back towards historical story of old kingdom.
The airport is connected with train station which we can just walk around it. Ticket cost Rp 20,000 or Rp 50,000; the difference is just about 1 stop, cheaper price will stop at Wates station for a while while the expensive one will go directly towards city.
Do note that you have to book faster before its out of stock! Otherwise, travel by taxi will be longer and way more expensive!
Yogyakarta - A First
For someone who loves traveling, it’s quite amusing that I didn’t travel much to see the world. I heard about Yogyakarta a lot from friends and social media. The majestic of its places of interest, the interesting people and its culture. Through YouTube, I learned further about Yogyakarta. Did some research before embarking on a journey of discovery. Finally, a first for me. And I fell in love with Yogyakarta. #Yogyakarta #Jogja
Most beautiful airport in Indonesia💛
Goes to YIA - Yogyakarta International Airport (IMO)
I love how the airport architecture is modern yet still reflected on Indonesia or specifically Yogyakarta culture. You could easily spot indonesian’ culture like the statue at the entrance of the airport, shape of the gate that reflects from Plengkungan Gading that represent gate in and out from Benteng Kraton Yogyakarta~
Definitely my fave airport in Indonesia~

I want to visit HK to enjoy their wonderful attraction and night
Love the new airport in Yogyakarta
Great shops and restaurants in the new Yogyakarta airport!
[Airport Visit] Yogyakarta International Airport
I went from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta International Airport is a little far from Yogyakarta city, about 50km away, but it was just built in 2020 and is a very beautiful place! #Yogyakarta #Airport #Indonesia
YIA- Yogyakarta International Airport
This is the latest airport for international travellers.
Can buy your train ticket at the airport is super cheaper then using grab or gojek.
Grab and Gojek are the apps for you to book a driver or you can just go to the drop off point to look for any driver that match with your budget.
[Indonesia] I went to Yogyakarta International Airport.
Yogyakarta is close to the Borobudur and Prambanan ruins. Yogyakarta International Airport is the gateway to Yogyakarta.
It is a little far from the city of Yogyakarta, but you can get there in about 30 minutes by train. Please note that you may not be able to board if you do not purchase a ticket in advance.
The airport has restaurants familiar to Japanese people, such as Starbucks and KFC. If you want to relax before your flight or have a simple meal, you can do so at the airport.
It is also not very large, so it is nice that you can easily find your gate without getting lost.
You can see the planes well from the large windows, so it is an airport that can be enjoyed even with children.

YIA transportation to City
The new airport of Yogyakarta is very huge and nice, but as we know, the location is pretty far from the city. To reach the city, there is some option we could take as the airport train which depart around every 1.5hour, Damri bus, or private car like grab.
The airport train is very convenience to reach the city and from the city to airport. the price is very cheap, only IDR 20.000,- and every seat have charging station. The train takes 39 mins for one way and definitely the fastest way at the moment to travel between YIA and Yogyakarta city.
