Best area in Amsterdam for food and drink

Not far from the van Gogh Museum and almost across the road from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam you will find the area around Leidseplein. This square from the Spiegelgracht in the east, Lijnbaangracht south and Prinsengracht north is full of restaurants from around the world and cosy bars witn terraces (covered in the winter). From Nepal, to Italian, Dutch to Korean, Japanese, Thai, Chinese and many other kitchen are available. The streets are small and during the evening a lovely happy place to be. If you are near the Spiegelgracht have a look at the old houses leaning on the stronger houses around it as the wooden posts on which they were build settled and then rotted over time. Tram 2, 11 and 12 are a short ride away from the Central Station and Red Light area and tram 5 serves the south of Amsterdam and Amstelveen. All run till around 12:30 AM so no need to worry about long walks or expensive taxies. Enjoy
