The Nubian civilization has a history dating back to 2000 BC and is situated in the Nile River Valley, encompassing regions of northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Today, modern Nubians primarily reside in the areas of Aswan and Kom Ombo. Traditionally, Nubian villages are found along the banks of the Nile River. However, in 1963, the completion of the High Dam under Abdel Nasser’s leadership led to the displacement of 135,000 Nubians from 44 villages. Sadly, many ancient Nubian monuments now lie submerged at the bottom of Lake Nasser. Some temples were rescued, thanks in part to the efforts of the “Nubian company” and UNESCO.
