It is a Sri Lankan-style chedi in Sukhothai style, built during the reign of King Rama IV, which built over two original chedis: the Sanchi Stupa-style chedi in the Indian style during the reign of King Ashoka the Great and the ancient Khmer-style chedi. Phra Pathom Chedi is a large chedi in the shape of an inverted bell with a huge flaring mouth. The structure is made of logs, tied with huge chains, bricks, cement, decorated with tiles. It consists of 4 chapels and 2 layers of glass walls. “It is the place where the relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined. It is respected and worshipped by Buddhists all over the world. The temple has scheduled a festival to worship Phra Pathom Chedi on the 12th waxing moon of the 12th lunar month to the 5th waning moon of the 12th lunar month, for 9 days and 9 nights every year.
