According to legend, three Chinese people built the temple together and later named it Wat Bang Lamphu, after the name of the sub-district. During the reign of King Rama I, Somdet Phra Bowonratchao Maha Sura Singhanat ordered the renovation of Wat Bang Lamphu and gave it to Nak Chi, the grandmother of His Royal Highness Princess Kampujchat, the daughter of Nak Chi, the mother of Chao Chom Manda Nak Ong Ee, the daughter of King Narai Raja, King of Cambodia. - Later, during the reign of King Rama III, he ordered the renovation of the new temple and moved the ordination hall to the current location. During the reign of King Rama IV, he ordered Mr. Sut Phlat, Deputy Director of the Casting Department, to restore the principal Buddha image in the ordination hall and gave the temple the name "Wat Sangwet Wisayaram".
