During the Thonburi period, it was the place where King Taksin the Great ordered the execution of Burmese prisoners of war from Bangkaew Camp. Later, King Rama I accepted it under his royal patronage and reestablished the entire temple and named it "Wat Suwannaram". This was because his original name was "Thongduang", the same as the name of the temple. In addition, Somdet Phra Bowonratchao Maha Sura Singhanat had faith in building a royal crematorium for the cremation of high-ranking royal family members and nobles, who according to tradition had to be cremated outside the outer walls of the city. This royal crematorium was used until the reign of King Rama V. - During the reign of King Rama III, he ordered the renovation of Wat Suwannaram and ordered a painter to paint murals in the ordination hall. There were works by Luang Wichit Chettha (Thongyu), the author of Nemiraj Jataka. with Luang Seni Borirak (Kong Pae), the author of the Mahasot Jataka, who were both famous painters at that time. The two painted in a competition, using a cloth covering and then opening it to reveal the finished work. It is considered a beautiful mural painting in the Rattanakosin period, with delicate lines and small details, and is one of the most complete in Bangkok and Thailand.
