🏯 Wat Suthat Thepwararam — The premier royal temple located on Bamrung Muang Road Established by King Rama I in 1807 as the central temple of the capital, it was completed under King Rama III around 1847–1848. It is one of the top-tier royal temples, ranking among 10 in Bangkok and 23 nationwide. ⸻ 🎨 Artistic & Architectural Highlights —• The Grand Vihara —• Approximately 23.8 meters wide and 26.4 meters long, featuring a traditional Thai double-tiered roof with exquisite decorations. —• Intricately carved wooden doors crafted during King Rama II’s reign, adorned with rice sheaf patterns, lotus flowers, birds, and butterflies. —• Interior walls decorated with murals depicting Buddhist stories and the Three Worlds (Traiphum), covering the entire hall. —• Significant Buddha statues —• Phra Si Sakyamuni, a large bronze Buddha statue from Sukhothai, serves as the principal statue in the Grand Vihara. —• Another statue, Phra Trilokachet, is housed in the ordination hall, while Phra Phuttha Sethi Munni resides in the Dharma Pavilion. —• Around the Grand Vihara are the Seven Great Places (Sattamahasathan), symbolized by seven types of trees, along with 28 octagonal Chinese-style pagodas at the base, representing the 28 Buddhas. —• The Giant Swing, standing 21.15 meters tall, was once used in the Brahmin ceremony of worshiping Phaya Chai (the giant shaking the gods) but was discontinued after 1932 due to frequent accidents. 🧘♂️ Experience and Atmosphere —• Wat Suthat offers a tranquil space in the heart of the old city, ideal for leisurely walks or meditation.
