Royal temple built by King Kuena

#VisitChiangMai 🏘Wat Suan Dok or Wat Buppharam is a third-class royal temple. In 1914, King Kuena, the sixth king of the Mangrai Dynasty, ordered the construction of a royal temple in Wiang Suan Dok in the royal park area to be the residence of Phra Sumanathera, the founder of the Sri Lankawong sect of Buddhism in the Lanna region. 🧱Later, it became a deserted temple when Chiang Mai fell under the rule of Burma until it was renovated during the reign of King Kawila of the Thipphachak Dynasty. Important and interesting things in the temple include: 🛕The large Sri Lankan-style pagoda was built in 1914 and contains the relics of the Buddha. It has been renovated and covered with gold leaf. It was originally a Sukhothai-style pagoda (in the shape of a rice bundle) but has collapsed. 🙏🏽Phra Chao Kao Tue, enshrined in the ordination hall, is a large cast Buddha statue in the Chiang Saen style, made by Lanna and Sukhothai craftsmen. Made of 9 million tamlung metal ("Tue" is a word in Northern Thai, meaning a thousand chang).
