Christchurch, the South Island city alive with gardens and art

#July Travel Support Fund Christchurch is the largest city in New Zealand's South Island, but it has a relaxed atmosphere where nature and art are in harmony. There are many trees and parks throughout the city, so the nickname 'Garden City' fits well. The first places I visited were Hagley Park and Christchurch Botanic Gardens. The various trees and flowers were perfect for a walk, and the Avon River flowing through the center of the park made the city even more peaceful. The small boats like gondolas slowly floating on the river were also impressive. The area around Christchurch Cathedral, which was restored after the earthquake, was also worth a visit. The temporary cathedral made of containers and wood instead of the collapsed building seemed like a symbol of reconstruction. The street art and murals in the city center also showed a new sense of the city. If you have a little more time, it would be nice to take a gondola up to the observation deck on the hill or go to Somerset Beach to enjoy the ocean view.
