COVENTRY

Coventry is not a city that will be high on many people's lists, but it does have some interesting sights to offer. The city is located in the heart of England, next to the much larger Birmingham. In the Middle Ages, it was an impor tant trading centre for the cloth industry. The timber-framed houses that st ill stand in the city serve as a reminder of this time. One of the unique places in Coventry is the ruin of the old cathedral. During the Second World War, the city was heavily bombed, and the medieval cathedral was largely destroyed. Instead of removing the ruins, they were preserved as a memorial to peace and reconciliation. Next to the old ruins now stands the modern Coventry Cathedral.
