Baiyu Mountain is located in the center of Lushunkou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, with an altitude of 165 meters. It was originally called "Xiguanshan". In the sixth year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1880), when Li Hongzhang accompanied Prince Chun, the father of Emperor Guangxu, to inspect Lushunkou, there was both gold and white jade. From then on, Xiguan Mountain was renamed "Baiyu Mountain". Climbing to the top of Baiyu Mountain, you can have a panoramic view of Lushunkou Military Port and the urban scenery. Baiyu Mountain has two north-south highways winding around the mountain. On the east slope of the mountain, there is a 499-step cement step leading directly to the top of the mountain. There are pavilions along the way for tourists to rest. There is an aerial cableway at the southern foot that goes directly to the top of the mountain. The aerial cableway was completed on May 15, 1987. The height difference is 92 meters, the straight-line distance is 378 meters, and the girth is 802 meters. At the corner of Baiyushan South Road, there is a cannon purchased from Germany in 1881 by the Qing Dynasty, with a caliber of 210 mm. During the Russo-Japanese War, in order to strengthen the defense of the Lushunkou Fortress, Tsarist Russia moved this gun from the Laohuwei West Jiguan Fort to the old iron. In February 1908, the Japanese army placed this gun in Baiyu Mountain. There is a white pagoda on the top of Baiyu Mountain. It was a "loyalty pagoda" built by the Japanese army after the Russo-Japanese War to show off their martial arts and commemorate the fallen soldiers. After the Russo-Japanese War in 1905, at the initiative of the Commander of the Japanese Combined Fleet and the Commander of the Third Army of the Japanese Army, the colonial authorities decided to build a "Loyalty Tower" on the top of Baiyu Mountain to commend the officers and soldiers who served the Emperor during the Russo-Japanese War. Construction of the "Loyalty Tower" started in 1907 and was completed in 1909, which took two years and five months. The tower is 66.8 meters high. There are 273 spiral steps inside the tower. The top of the tower is in the shape of a bullet (some say it is in the shape of a candle), which means that it will never be extinguished. The "Tower of Loyalty" is one of the main evidences of Japanese imperialism's invasion of China. In 1945, in Lushun, the local government changed the name of the pagoda to "White Jade Mountain Pagoda" based on the name of the mountain. Climbing to the foothills of Baiyu Mountain, you can have a panoramic view of the beautiful Port Arthur. Directly south of Baiyu Mountain is Lushun Military Port, where warships go back and forth one after another, tasked with defending the motherland. Gone are the days when there was a heroic people's army and imperialism acted recklessly. Baiyu Mountain is the Baiyu Mountain of the Chinese people.
