Enjoying the Days Filled with Light at Beidao B&B

Curled up in a room at Oneday Beidao B&B, I couldn’t even be bothered to draw the curtains. The sheer drapes let in just enough light to make out the spines of books on the shelf. The wooden floor didn’t make a sound underfoot, and the only noise was the sound of waves outside, like a perpetual white noise machine that never shuts off. The rattan hanging chair in the corner of the room was a hidden gem. Once nestled in, I didn’t want to move. A random collection of essays lay open on my lap, but after reading a few lines, the gentle swaying made me drowsy. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the sheer curtains, casting slender beams of light on the pages, swaying gently with the chair as if performing a slow-motion dance. Eventually, I gave up on reading, placed the book on my stomach, and let the scent of the sea breeze mixed with woody aromatherapy lull me into a deeper relaxation. The small fridge by the bedside table held delightful surprises. Opening the door released a cool mist, revealing local yogurt and chilled lychees that the hostess had placed there in the morning, saying, "You need a little sweetness while lounging." Sitting cross-legged on the bed, I peeled lychees, unconcerned about the juice dripping onto the cotton sheets—after all, the sun-dried scent would cover everything. Occasionally, I’d glance out the window, where the shadows of bougainvillea swayed gently on the wall, like a breathing painting. It wasn’t until nightfall that I finally drew back the heavy curtains. The terrace outside was lit with string lights, and the laughter of other guests floated up, blending softly with the sound of the waves. Leaning on the windowsill to stargaze, I noticed my reflection in the glass—messy hair, wearing the B&B’s cotton slippers, yet feeling more at ease than ever. It turns out the best kind of vacation is having a place where you can guiltlessly "waste time." No makeup, no rushing around, and even meals can be enjoyed in the comfort of your room. When the sound of waves replaces the alarm clock and sunlight becomes your schedule, you realize that true relaxation is allowing yourself to be like a sun-warmed marshmallow—soft, lazy, and perfectly content to stay that way.
