⛪️St. Mary’s Cathedral hidden in Edinburgh’s New Town

#Overseas travel #UK travel #Attractions St Mary's Catholic Cathedral, completed in 1814, is located on the east side of Edinburgh's New Town, adjacent to the St. James Quarter shopping mall and the Omni entertainment plaza, so it is easy to miss its presence in the bustling city center. When you come here, you might as well take some time to visit this #famous attraction and learn about Edinburgh’s #religious culture! 🤓🤓 Grand cathedrals with a long history often dominate the skyline, but the short size of the Gothic Revival-style Santa Maria Cathedral prevents its spire from taking up a place on the skyline. When I stepped into this #historical building, it was a calm and dimly lit interior. There was a gorgeous painted frieze on the altar, exquisitely carved murals on the walls, and different sacred figures hanging on the curved pillars. Portraits, these features have become the charm of this insignificant #church, which made me stop to watch, wondering what religious and historical significance these elaborate designs have! 🧐🧐 When I approached the portrait of Saint Mary, I saw a black stone tombstone on the ground. It is really difficult to find it if you don't pay close attention! On the ground near the exit, there is also a monument engraved with many religious leaders, as if to remind people not to forget their contribution to religion! 👍👍 There are several container-like snack shops on the path leading to St. James Quarter next to the church. In addition, don’t miss to admire the three very interesting black giant carvings outside the door of the church! Although they feel very incompatible with the surrounding buildings, they are still considered one of the distinctive landmarks here.
