Following the breath of the tranquil sea, a slow day in Faro.

After driving south for a few hours from Lisbon, I arrived in Faro. Many people consider this place as the gateway to Algarve or merely a city to pass through. However, I found unexpected serenity and profound breath here. The city was small and quiet. Walking along the cobblestone paths in the old town, you’ll see buildings with white and yellow facades, people sipping coffee under the shade of orange trees, ancient city gates, and intricate iron balconies. The streets seem to preserve the passage of time, and beyond them lies the vast and calm sea. I took a small ferry across the sea. My destination was a small island village called Culatra (Ilha da Culatra). Walking along paths filled with sand and seashells, laundry fluttering in the wind, and houses with blue roofs, it’s clear this is a fishing village. Freshly caught fish are laid out, and wooden boats rest lightly against the dock, waiting to set sail.
