A thousand-year-old castle in France! .

Château du Sailhant is a 1,000-year-old castle located in Auvergne in central France. It sits on a triangular basalt spur. The castle's walls, like its seven towers, are built from blocks of ancient grey lava, while the roof is covered with slate. The first fortification on the site was a wooden tower protected by ramparts and a dry moat – in fact, this is the only side of the castle that is accessible today. Early 11th century. The lords of Sayhant Castle replaced the wooden tower with a square stone keep. The fortress was expanded by the Saihant family from the 13th century onwards. The spur was closed by a curtain wall with ramparts and two towers, and a deep, dry ditch. In the 18th century. The castle fell into disrepair and some buildings were demolished. In 1997, the ruined castle was purchased by New York architect Joseph Pell Lombardi, who spent 25 years meticulously restoring and decorating it!
