Shingon Buddhism Tochoji Temple

Tochoji Temple (officially known as Tocho Mitsuji) is the second temple in Hakata. It was founded by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) upon his return from Tang Dynasty China in 806. The temple is home to the Fukuoka Great Buddha, which is the largest wooden Buddha statue in Japan. (The temple is also located near Gion Station.)
