In recent years, a Japanese citizen movement has been created to actively preserve these cultural assets. The "Association for Promoting the Nagasaki Group of Churches as a World Heritage Site" is said to have been started by a group of local scholars and architects. They claim that Japanese churches are valuable for their unique fusion of Western and Japanese architectural styles.
