The fifth-rank magistrate of Fuliang County is surprisingly higher than the prefectural level!

The ancient county yamen of Fuliang in Jingdezhen is the most well-preserved feudal county-level yamen in southern China, known as "China's Number One Yamen" and "The First Yamen of Jiangnan". Fuliang County has always held an extraordinary position, although it is a county, all the magistrates of Fuliang have been fifth-rank officials, which is equivalent to the level of a prefect, and even higher than some prefects of the same rank. Fuliang played an important role in various eras with its economic pattern of mutual benefit between porcelain and tea, and the combination of agriculture, industry, and commerce, being appointed as a fifth-rank county yamen multiple times. In the first year of the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty, Xinchang was renamed Fuliang, designated as a Shangyi (fifth-rank official position); inside the county yamen, there is a stele from the 33rd year of Qianlong's reign stating "Specially ordered the main hall of Fuliang to be promoted by five ranks"; the Mingjian Beitandanfang's decree states "Conferred the title of Tongzhi, awarded the right to wear the flower plume and manage the affairs of Fuliang, built by Mao Gong" — bestowing the fifth rank, making it the highest-ranked county yamen in China. The majestic Song Dynasty Red Pagoda, known as "Jiangxi's Number One Pagoda", was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit in 1959. The pagoda has seven stories, with a height of 37.8 meters from the ground to the top of the complex eaves. The body of the pagoda is built with large green bricks, and each level features an overhanging platform constructed with green bricks, without any railings.
