The most beautiful scenery in Switzerland is actually along the way

Davos is nestled deep in the Alps of southeastern Switzerland, not far from the borders of Austria and Italy. This small town lies in a valley surrounded by lush green pastures and forests, boasting absolutely first-class natural environment—one of the reasons why the World Economic Forum is held here. The drive from Liechtenstein to Davos takes just over an hour. Arriving in Davos at dusk, I checked into the InterContinental Hotel and stood on the balcony to gaze at this world-famous town. The InterContinental Hotel happens to be at the entrance of Davos Valley, offering excellent views. Davos first gained fame for its pure air. In the 19th century, tuberculosis was still an incurable disease. German doctor Alexander discovered that Davos, with its high altitude and surrounding mountains, had exceptionally dry and fresh air. He brought several tuberculosis patients here for recuperation, and miraculously, they recovered. Thus, Davos became the ideal sanatorium for lung patients, and several rehabilitation hospitals were built in the town. Originally, Davos was Europeans' top summer retreat, with temperatures around 20°C (68°F) and crisp air drawing endless streams of visitors. Legend has it that a local hotelier transformed Davos into a ski resort. At the time, tourists only came during summer, with few visiting in winter. The hotelier promised guests free summer stays the following year if they vacationed in winter. When some tourists came during winter, they discovered the season was even more breathtaking.
