Introducing Gero Onsen, one of Japan’s top three hot springs!

#Travel itinerary The three major hot springs in Japan are Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture, Arima Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture, and Gero Onsen in Gifu Prefecture. They are popular and famous hot springs known as tonchi hot springs. There are also places called secret hot springs, but they are closer to healing and are located in hidden places in winding paths, so the three places above are known as the three major hot springs. I visited Gero Onsen 9 years ago in 2014, when I was returning to Nagoya after finishing my trip to Toyama, I got off on the JR Hokuriku Kanko Kitpu and toured for about 2 hours. At that time, a local acquaintance I was in contact with was working at a Gero Onsen ryokan, so he took me on a tour of Gero Onsen Gassho-mura and Gero Open-air Hot Springs by car. After 9 years, I visited Gero Onsen again to stay overnight. First, we stayed at a ryokan called Bosenkan, which I wrote a review about, and walked around Gero Onsen Sanpo for about an hour. The terrain where Gero Onsen is located is such that the downstream of the large Hida River spreads out wide in front, and it is surrounded by mountains on all four sides, so the temperature is not high even in summer. The hot spring town is like a mountain village, with a stream flowing down to the Hida River between the terraced slopes, and a winding town is formed and a shopping street is connected. It may seem narrow, but the hot spring town is wider than you think, so it is a good structure for taking a walk. The clear sound of the stream and river water flowing was the best. Gero Onsen was like a hot spring department store that had all three of the above, including Hirugami Onsen in Nagano, Arima Onsen in Hyogo Prefecture, and Ginzan Onsen in Yamagata. I have been to nearly 200 hot spring towns in Japan, and the hot springs themselves make me feel like I am in Japan, so even though I only soak in them for 5-10 minutes, I feel like my soul is being washed. Gero Onsen is about 100-150 minutes from Nagoya, and there is a direct bus from Chubu Airport, and there are express trains that run 7-8 times a day. You can travel to nearby Takayama, Hida Furukawa Shirakawago, and Hirayu Onsen together, and it seems like a good place to enjoy the healing effects while leisurely staying for 2 nights. Thank you! #JapanTravel #HotSpringTravel #GeroTown #GifuTravel #NagoyaSuburbsTravel
