Tokyo's Remote Island: Hachijojima

Hachijojima is just a 55-minute flight from Haneda Airport. While there is also a ferry option, flying is incredibly convenient. The flight is so short that even offering drink service is challenging, so passengers are given bottled water instead. While renting a car is a good option, I chose to rent an electric bike (E-bike) to explore the island. The island is full of nature, with stunningly beautiful seas. There’s even a ranch with cows, and I enjoyed lunch at Paradiso, where they serve pizza made with Hachijojima cheese. For drinks, I had lemonade made from locally grown Hachijojima lemons. At another shop, I tried soft serve ice cream made from Hachijojima cow’s milk—it was absolutely delicious. The island offers plenty of gourmet delights. When it comes to the sea, the sunset and sunrise views are breathtaking. These spots are truly stunning. Additionally, there are several hot springs on the island, so be sure to take a dip in one of them. Being so close to Tokyo, Hachijojima is an easy and highly recommended getaway. Many accommodations offer shuttle services to and from the airport, and I also used one of these services.
