It is a Taoist temple dedicated to the famous Taoist scholar, chemist, and physician Ge Hong, and is named after his book "Baopuzi." The temple was built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty and has been rebuilt many times over the years. In 1983, Baopu Taoist Temple was approved by the State Council as one of the 21 key Taoist temples open to the public in China. In 2011, West Lake was successfully listed as a World Heritage Site, and Baopu Taoist Temple and Taoist culture were included in the West Lake Cultural Landscape World Heritage List.
