Himeji | Japan's National Treasure Castle

Himeji Castle One of Japan's four major castles, Himeji Castle is a National Treasure and a Cultural Heritage site. Spanning a vast area, its appearance resembles a bird with outstretched wings, earning it the nickname "White Heron Castle." Its pristine beauty is highlighted by the six-story Tenshukaku (main keep), which can be seen clearly from the second floor of Himeji Station. Admission is ¥1,000, or ¥1,050 with a combined ticket for Koko-en Garden. Himeji Castle is a classic example of a hilltop castle, built atop Mount Hime. Its most distinctive feature is the impressive interconnected keep structure, consisting of one large keep and three smaller keeps connected by corridors. The castle's expansive surroundings include open areas like Sannomaru Square, which is a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing. Nearby, Koko-en Garden is a Japanese-style garden that recreates the atmosphere of the Edo period, complementing the scenic beauty of Himeji Castle and serving as another must-visit attraction.
