Hong Kong Restaurant Luk Yu Tea House

Near Central MTR Station, we arrived at 8 AM for breakfast and there were plenty of seats available. We ordered three dishes: shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and custard buns, and had jasmine tea. The prices are relatively high; our breakfast for three cost around 1500 TWD, but we all agreed that the food was worth it. The restaurant has a retro wooden decor, and the environment is comfortable, clean, and not crowded. Unlike other places, they don't use hot tea for cleaning. The shrimp dumplings had large, plump shrimp inside. I usually have a bad habit of only eating the filling of siu mai and leaving the skin, but the skin here was chewy and didn't taste powdery, so I ate it all. The siu mai was also delicious. I usually worry about a meaty smell, but there was none here, and the skin was thin and tasty. The custard buns were a surprise. We thought they would be filled with liquid custard, but the staff asked if we wanted them cut open, which made us worry they would spill out. However, the custard filling was solid and not overly sweet or greasy. We would definitely come back to try other dishes next time we're in Hong Kong.
