The castle that produced Limburg's first Abbey beer

#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck Ter Dolen Castle is located in Helchteren. The castle was built in 1282 AD but was opened as a brewery in 1993. Ter Dolen's beers, Blond, Dark, Tripel and Kriek, were the first Abbey beers in Limburg Province to receive the "Recognized Belgian Abbey Beer" label in 2008. Normally, when you hear the word Abbey beer, you think of beer that must be brewed in a monastery or a Christian church. But in fact, the word Abbey beer means beer brewed in the same style as Trappist beer, but can be brewed anywhere. This is different from Trappist Beer, which must be brewed in a monastery by real monks. Ter Dolen Castle has a historical connection to the Abbey of Sint-Truiden, and was once used as a summer residence and refuge for the abbot. And the beer brewing recipe was also made together with monks from that monastery. Every Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at 3:00 PM, there is a tour inside for 45 minutes. The price is 15 Euros per person, including a drink after the tour. The courtyard and building in front of the castle will be a restaurant with all the local beers to order.
