Incheon Free Museum

The National Museum of World Writing, located in Songdo, Incheon, is Korea's first museum dedicated to the study of writing systems, showcasing a wide variety of scripts from around the world. It is recognized as one of the world's top three writing museums, alongside the Champollion Museum of Writing in France and the Chinese Museum of Writing. Since its opening in June 2023, it has garnered significant attention. The museum spans from the basement level to the second floor above ground. Its permanent exhibition hall features 55 types of scripts, ranging from humanity's earliest cuneiform writing to Egyptian hieroglyphs, Mayan scripts, Hangul, Braille, and more. Visitors can also view rare artifacts such as a cuneiform clay tablet from around 2000 BCE and the Gutenberg 42-line Bible printed in 1454. These invaluable items highlight the development of human civilization and the significance of writing systems. The children's experience room, "A Journey Through Writing with Kkaebi," is an interactive exhibition designed for children aged 5 to 7. Participation requires prior reservation, and the space allows children to learn the principles of writing through play. Additionally, the museum offers inclusive exhibits with tactile experiences and sign language videos, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their visit.
