German Battery Observation Post, Jersey Island

Jersey is a British Crown dependency that was occupied by Germany during World War II from 1940 to 1945. In 1943, the German Navy built a battery observation post named "Marine Peilstand und Meßstellung 3" in the northwest corner of the Jersey Strait (Figures 3-6). Bunker MP3 is designed to be part of a system of nine bunkers. These will be built and set up all around the island to watch for enemy ships. Using readings from just two of the observation posts, bearings and distances could be accurately and quickly calculated and then passed on to the various batteries on the island for strikes. Of the nine planned bunkers, only MP1, MP2, and MP3 were ultimately built. But in fact I only found MP2 (right side of Figure 2) and MP3 on the island. MP3 has 2m thick walls, 7 floors, and target identification is done through an opening in the front of the bunker.
