Strolling through Kanazawa Castle to Oyama Shrine via the Nezumitamon Gate

Walking along the stone-paved paths of Kanazawa Castle Park, you’ll suddenly encounter the elegantly restored Nezumitamon Gate and its wooden bridge. Originally built during the Edo period to connect the Gyokuseninmaru Garden and Kanaya Demaru, where Oyama Shrine is located, this gate was reconstructed in 2020, becoming a cultural bridge between the castle and the shrine. The Nezumitamon Gate features black namako-style plaster and a lead-tiled roof, with a two-story turret gate structure that makes it a distinctive landmark in the castle town. Following the gate is the Nezumitamon Bridge, the largest wooden bridge within the castle grounds, spanning the former moat and allowing visitors to walk seamlessly from the castle to Oyama Shrine. As I stepped out of the castle and onto the bridge, I quickly arrived at Oyama Shrine. This "Kaga Hyakumangoku Route" connects the castle, park, shrine, and samurai residences, offering a deeper appreciation of the grandeur of the Maeda Clan.
