The Bridge on the River Kwai

The Bridge on the River Kwai is a significant historical site located in Tha Makham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province. It is the most important bridge on the Death Railway, built during World War II by the Japanese army using Allied prisoners of war, including approximately 61,700 British, American, Australian, Dutch, and New Zealand soldiers, along with many Chinese, Vietnamese, Javanese, Malay, Thai, Burmese, and Indian laborers. The railway was constructed as a strategic route to Burma. Traveling by Train > Regular Train Service: Thonburi – Nam Tok (behind Siriraj Hospital), operates daily. Outbound: From Thonburi Station at 7:45 AM and 1:35 PM (arriving at the Bridge on the River Kwai at 10:55 AM and 4:26 PM). Return: From the Bridge on the River Kwai Station at 7:12 AM and 2:36 PM (arriving at Thonburi Station at 10:00 AM and 5:35 PM). > Special Tourist Train Trip: Bangkok – Nam Tok (only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays). Fare from Hua Lamphong Station: – Ordinary Class (3rd Class): 120 THB per trip (same price for adults and children). – Air-conditioned Class (2nd Class): 240 THB per trip (same price for adults and children). Trip Details: – Outbound: Departing from Hua Lamphong Station at 6:30 AM. – Stop to pay respects at Phra Pathom Chedi, Nakhon Pathom Province for 40 minutes. – Stop to visit the Bridge on the River Kwai for 25 minutes. – Stop at Sai Yok Noi Waterfall for about 3 hours. – Return: Stop to visit the Allied War Cemetery. – Arrive in Bangkok at 7:25 PM.
