Thung Setthi Temple, Khon Kaen

Wat Tung Setthi is located in Tambon Phra Lap, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province. The “Maha Chedi Ratana” or “Maha Chedi Sri Trai Lok That” was built by the initiative of Luang Ta Oi, also known as “Luang Ta Yam Daeng”. He invited his children and disciples to build this Maha Ratana Chedi on one of his plots of land. The highlight of the Maha Ratana Chedi is the construction style that reflects various beliefs. It is a perfect combination of important chedis from all three worlds: the Chulamani Chedi in the Daowadungsa Heaven, the Nakhon Chedi in the Naga realm, and the Maha Ratana Chedi Sri Trai Lok That on Earth. Just visiting this place is like paying homage to chedis from all three worlds. The Maha Ratana Chedi was built based on the belief that this point is the connection between the three worlds: heaven, humans, and the underworld. It is located in the middle of a pond surrounded by water. The four sides of the stairs are decorated with patterns of four families of animals, called the Four Elements Staircase, with guardians in all four directions. The chedi is designed as an open-hall chedi in the shape of an inverted bell, in an international style, including Thai, Tibetan, Chinese, and Western styles, beautifully blended together. There are also places to pay homage to Guan Yin, Phra Sangkachai, Phra Sivali, and there is also a Hell Square built to remind us. Therefore, when anyone comes to pay homage to this Maha Chedi, it is equivalent to paying homage to all three chedis in the three realms at the same time.
