Kinabatangan River: An Emerald Jungle Adventure, Rain or Shine!

Just experienced an incredible adventure on Sabah, Malaysia's Kinabatangan River, Borneo's vital wildlife corridor! Getting there requires planning: it's ~3 hrs from Sandakan. No Grab! Pre-arrange transport (car ~400 RM) or drive carefully – roads are narrow/dark at night! We chose the 4-5 hr 'Elephant Cruise' with Kinabatangan Wildlife River Cruise (@Kinabatangan_River_Cruise) covering ~25km (150 RM adult, 75 RM child; shorter 2.5hr option 60/30 RM). The ambiance? Pure, wild jungle! We saw loads of Proboscis Monkeys, a graceful Orangutan, beautiful Hornbill birds, catfish, and even a baby crocodile that lunged near us! Nature was alive! But then, nature showed its raw power. Severe rain, thunder, and lightning hit hard. We were soaked, kids scared, and the rain blinding (sunglasses useless, goggles needed!). Unprepared without rain gear, we reluctantly turned back, missing the main elephant herd area (a smaller group is nearer lodges but harder to spot). HUGE TIP: COME PREPARED! Pack a proper waterproof jacket, towel, change of clothes, sun hat, AND GOGGLES for rain visibility! Despite the storm cutting it short, it was a fun, adventurous experience I highly recommend!
