🚌 Exploring Lisbon on a Budget – More Value Than You’d Expect

#cheaptravel Destination: Lisbon, Portugal Lisbon exceeded my expectations as one of Europe’s most budget-friendly capital cities. From affordable transport to scenic attractions, it’s a perfect destination for anyone looking to explore Europe without breaking the bank. 💸 Transportation I highly recommend getting the 24-hour public transport pass (€6.80), which includes unlimited rides on metros, buses, funiculars, and the famous Tram 28—a vintage yellow tram that winds through the city’s historic neighborhoods like Alfama, Graça, and Baixa. Not only does it save you money, but it’s also a charming way to sightsee! The metro is clean, efficient, and safe, even at night. 🏠 Accommodation I stayed at a small guesthouse in the Intendente area, just a few stops from the city center, for under €30 per night. Many hostels and guesthouses in Lisbon offer shared kitchen access, which is great for self-catering if you want to save even more. If you’re traveling in a group, Airbnb apartments in the outskirts or in neighborhoods like Arroios or Campo de Ourique can be even cheaper. 🍽️ Food & Drinks Portuguese food is both tasty and inexpensive. I had filling local meals for under €10 a day by choosing local tascas (small family-run restaurants) and avoiding touristy spots. Must-tries include: • Bacalhau à Brás (salted cod with scrambled eggs and potatoes) • Francesinha (a meaty sandwich covered in sauce) • Grilled sardines if you’re there in summer • And of course, Pastel de Nata—I got mine fresh from Pastéis de Belém for under €1.50! Tap water is safe to drink in Lisbon, and many bakeries and cafés offer espresso for less than €1—great for a quick recharge between sightseeing. 📸 Free Attractions Lisbon is filled with miradouros (viewpoints) that offer stunning views of the red-tiled rooftops, the Tagus River, and the 25 de Abril Bridge—all for free. My favorite was Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, which has a peaceful vibe and an unbeatable sunset view.
