The House of an Architect Who Collected Time – Sir John Soane’s Museum

Sir John Soane’s Museum was the home and office of Sir John Soane (1753–1837), one of the greatest neoclassical architects of the 18th and 19th centuries. The house is filled with art pieces, ancient artifacts, architectural models, and paintings curated by Soane himself. The arrangement, which takes into account the size of the rooms and lighting, offers a spatial experience that feels like an artwork rather than just an exhibition space. Notably, the dome-structured Picture Room and three small courtyards create a sensory landscape where light, architecture, and collections harmonize beautifully. Admission is free, and the museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM).
