#Great Places in September 2024 The Arco della Pace, originally known as the Arc de Triomphe, was built by Napoleon in 1807 to celebrate his victory in the European War. However, before the gate was completed, Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo and exiled. In 1826, Francisco, the ruler of Milan, renamed it the Arch of Peace. Above the door stands a bronze statue of the goddess of peace, holding an olive branch and standing on a chariot drawn by six horses, symbolizing peace and victory. The Arch of Peace has now become one of Milan's famous landmarks, attracting countless tourists to come and take photos to experience its unique historical charm and grandeur.
