Duomo di Milano

#celebratewithtrip Milan Cathedral also known as Duomo di Milano in Italian, is a vast Gothic-styled cathedral located in the heart of Milan. It is 157 meters high 92 meters wide and houses up to 40000 people. It is located at Piazza del Duomo, the nearest metro station is Duomo ( Line 1 and 3 ). It is one of the most visited site in Milan. The construction of Milan Cathedral began in 1386 and took five centuries to complete. Inside the vast interior, five great aisles stretch from the entrance to the altar. Enormous stone pillars dominate the nave. The walls and niches house a large amount of statuary. The beautiful, colourful stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible are visible, reflecting an ethereal light on the floor of the church. It is now possible to descend the marble staircase to the Cathedral Treasure to see and appreciate the paleo-Christian and Romanesque objects.
