Miyakojima Travel Guide🏝️: Island Escapes & Hidden Beaches

If you're dreaming of Okinawa’s turquoise waters but want to skip the crowds, Miyakojima is the low-key paradise you've been waiting for. This three-day itinerary takes you across powdery beaches, scenic bridges, and island izakayas—with each day offering something a little different. ⛱️ Day 1: Beach-Hopping & Sunset Dining Start your island escape at Yonaha Maehama Beach, often called one of Japan’s best. The water is crystal clear, the sand soft and white—perfect for swimming or simply soaking in the view. Then make your way to Sunayama Beach. A short walk through a sandy path leads to a cove framed by a natural stone arch. The waters are shallow and incredibly inviting. In the afternoon, head to Miyako Town. Grab a coffee at Goodman’s Coffee Truck, then enjoy dinner at Watowa Izakaya, a relaxed spot known for its creative plates and fresh local ingredients. 🦐 Day 2: Road Trip North & Island Discoveries Take a scenic drive to the north of the island and make your first stop at Harry’s Shrimp Truck. The garlic shrimp bowls are juicy, flavorful, and perfect as a beachside lunch. Not far away is Miyako Kibi Chaya, where you can try refreshing sugarcane juice and traditional Okinawan shaved ice. Next, cross the bridge to Ikema Island. Quiet and serene, this little island is a perfect detour. Don’t miss Cafe Ninufa, a peaceful gelato café tucked along the coast with its own private beach—ideal for a nice stroll and photos along the beach. 🚙 Day 3: Bridge Views & Blue Lagoons on Irabu Island Drive across the Irabu Bridge, one of Japan’s longest toll-free bridges, to reach Irabu Island. The first stop is Toriike Pond, a mystical twin sinkhole surrounded by rugged cliffs and dense greenery—it's both scenic and sacred. Then head west to 17END, where shallow turquoise waters stretch endlessly. At low tide, you can walk out onto soft sandbanks that appear like a natural pathway into the ocean. It’s one of the most iconic and peaceful views on the island. 🏠 Where to Stay: Bay Coast Again While there are many resorts and hotels on Miyakojima, we opted for a private villa at Bay Coast Again—and it was amazing. The service was warm and thoughtful, and the breakfast was a highlight: fresh ingredients with the fun of baking your own bread. A quiet location, sea views, and cozy design made it feel like a true home away from home. Whether you’re chasing beach time, good food, or quiet moments away from the crowds, Miyakojima delivers all the essentials of a perfect island escape 🏖️
