If you ask me which is my favorite town in New Zealand, I would undoubtedly recommend Oamaru in the South Island! While this charming town is famous for penguin watching, its unique quirky charm is equally unforgettable. Oamaru's architectural style is distinctive, exuding the elegance of the Victorian era. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back into a romantic bygone age. Moreover, there's a steampunk-themed museum and playground here, brimming with whimsical imagination that will captivate you. Strolling through the old district feels like being immersed in a punk-style world, with surprises at every corner. The artistic installations and buildings are incredibly creative, and you can even participate in a costume show, cosplaying as medieval characters. The food is also fantastic! Lobster and chips are both affordable and delicious. There are plenty of photo-worthy spots too, such as the Friendly Bay Playground's non-powered amusement park and the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony.
