Explore the cultural diversity at Wat Sala Chao

🏡 Wat Sala Chao was built around 1787 (B.E. 2330). Its name comes from its location at the mouth of Khlong Sala Chao. The temple was constructed by Mon people who fled the Burmese war and sought refuge under the royal patronage. 🏞 Another historical account suggests that the temple was built during the late Ayutthaya period by Chao Noi Maha Phrom, the son of a northern governor. He traveled down the Chao Phraya River and arrived at Wat Makham Nai, where he met a Mon monk. Inspired by the monk's spiritual knowledge, Chao Noi Maha Phrom decided to build a temple and shrine, naming it Wat Sala Chao after the shrine he constructed. Key attractions within the temple include: 🏠 The ordination hall (Ubosot): Built by Chao Noi Maha Phrom and later renovated, it features stunning architecture with intricate stucco designs. Inside, the principal Buddha image, Phra Buddha Rattan Maha Phrom (known as Chao Sua Pak Daeng), is enshrined in the Mara Vijaya posture. ⛺ The reclining Buddha hall: Houses a reclining Buddha image. 🙏 Luang Pho Rom Pho: A sculpture carved from a Bodhi tree that stood at the temple for over a century before it died. 🛕 Mon-style stupa. 🏯 Xian Pa Shrine: Dedicated to Xian Pa, a Chinese layman known for his mystical powers.
