A trip to Penang

Penang is one of the weekend getaway people of Malaysia would do. It’s a four to five hours drive from our place. Hence, a road trip ! Left after breakfast, we stop by Ipoh for lunch. The usual Ipoh delicacy such as Ipoh bean sprouts chicken with rice noodle soup (怡保芽菜雞河粉), Ipoh White Coffee (怡保白咖啡), Salt Brined Chicken (鹽焗雞), Chee Cheung Fun (豬腸粉). Then, another 2 hours to Penang Island. Book ourselves to Double Tree Resort by Hilton located at Batu Ferringhi. Kids absolutely love the pool and water splash area but not a fan of the nearby Miami Beach where we have to walk across the road via footbridge. We spent sometimes at the Dino Gym playhouse at The Top. Apparently they are a Themepark with aquarium, Jurassic research centre, skywalk and observatory deck, playhouse and arcades. I wouldn’t say it’s well maintained but it’s reasonable and a place to hang out for a couple of hours, especially if you’re with kids when weather is too hot for outdoors. The only playground we went is the newly built Sia Boey Urban Archeological Park. They have simple playground equipment such as ropes for climbing, stairs up to 2 storeys high for slides and rubber floors. Accidentally found the local street food near the park at Chulia Street Night Hawker Stalls where we kept going back for more. Kids and myself love the Apom so much ordered 30 pcs and gobble up in minutes. The char kuey teow and radish cakes are tasty too. Our belly are almost full when arriving at Gurney Drive Food Market but wouldn’t miss it anyway.
