Who says Penang is just about the street food?

We visited the sunny and hot island of Penang in Malaysia for 4 days. We have tried nearly all the famous street food during our past trips. This trip, we want to do something different, something unique, culinarily speaking. And so we started! Peranakan cuisine or Nyonya cuisine comes from the Peranakans, descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca, Singapore and Indonesia, inter-marrying with local Malays. In Baba Malay, a female Peranakan is known as a nonya (also spelled nyonya), and a male Peranakan is known as a baba. The cuisine combines Chinese, Malay, Javanese, South Indian, and other influences. To truly enjoy the deep cultural aspects of the Peranakans, one would need to dig into their cuisine and the best place to have it was Flower Mulan Nyonya Cafe. A beautiful and busy interior awaits diners at this Michelin-guided restaurant. There are numerous corners within the restaurant that beautiful pictures can be taken. Of course, we are here for the food and it was the best we had for Nyonya food in Penang. The dishes were very aromatic and fragrant with the amount of spices used in their dishes. Not forgetting the ever-friend Malaysian hospitality. A truly culinary experience! #penangisland #penang #malaysia #michelin #马来西亚冰城 #娘惹菜
